I never actually stated there were more haters than fans, though I would imagine a good percentage of e621 users find MLP too "girly" and stupid. It's like Barney, IMO: Liking MLP would probably cause me to kill myself. (yes I am exaggerating, but you get the point) I would probably have a similar feeling if Barbie or Disney princesses flooded the site also.

So? Let's take this example. I don't like scat and vore. I am sure there are people out there that feel the same, IE they think it's weird and gross, not to say there is anything wrong in LIKING it, more power to you. I wouldn't make a dozens of comments and threads saying "Remove this shit (pun intended) from the site", because i do the sensible thing and blacklist it. i would just thin kto myself: "hmm, there sure is a lot of blacklisted posts today. Well, i'll just look at what else was uploaded, since the blacklist-problem is being worked on".

I don't say: "If i liked it, i would fucking shoot myself!" or "There are SOME bastards out there allowing this trash, why don't people vote down on it?!" as you say in your last comment. I don't know if you mean it, or just worded yourself poorly. You just come through as egotistical to me, since you have no tolerance for other people. I don't care if i get tons of empty boxes, in this example because i blacklisted Palcomix (dear god!).

"I never actually stated there were moer haters than fans, though i would imagine a good erpcentage of e621 users find MLP too "girly" and stupid"
I don't want to look like a troll, who takes your comments apart to find ways to insult you, but that sentence came out weird. So you didn't say that there were more haters than fans, but then you say "a good percentage" hate it. In my mind, "a good percentage" means that there would be over 50% haters, thus there would be more haters". if you didn't mean it that way, why did you later say:

"I think it only matters if a FEW people like it, that's why it's staying on the site. And I doubt that the rating system is being utilized to its full extent, so we can't really go by what a submission's rating is."

So only a few people support MLP, and the rest either don't care or hate it. Perhaps you would like to "retort" to my statements and questions? Even though this thread has been going long enough, and we don't get much out anymore, other than "neighsayers" attacking MLP, and "Bronies" trying to defend the franchise. Since they are working on the issue, we can't complain anymore, can we? We are all profiting from this solution, and arguing further just drives a stake into our "relations".

Holy massive rant.

On the note of "Fans/haters" I would say theirs a 20/20/60 relationship here, twenty percent love it, and upload/verbalize this, 20% hate it, verbalize this, and the rest just don't give a shit one way or the other.

Those numbers are probably wrong, its probably more like 5/5/90 but you get my point.

Shit, why can i never keep my mouth shut?! I have to tell my self every time "Don't try to argue over the internet! It's a futile cause from the start". I'll just try to keep a low profile in this thing. I will finish my rant by quoting my favorite quote:
"Winning an arguement on the internet is like winning the special olympics. Even if you win, you are still retarded".
Christ, here i go again >_<

We all know that it is simply the vocal minority of the clientele of this website that constitutes the social stereotype.

I'm not a big fan of it myself, but I can enjoy some scat. I do blacklist things I don't like. I was implying that very few people actually use the ratings system. And "a good percentage" does NOT imply over 50%. I would have said "a majority" if that were the case. When I said it only matters if a FEW people like it, I was implying that it doesn't matter who likes what as long as some find it enjoyable. I don't know how many people actually like MLP, that's why I'm not explicitly stating a percentage or minority.

These last few posts I have made are not because I'm still seeing MLP; I blacklisted them. It just seems to be flooding the site constantly, and I can still tell by the blacklisted numbers on the left side.

You are free to like whatever the hell you want to, and I am free to dislike it, but I would never actually kill myself as I purposely exaggerated in my last post.

Yeah, the people that upload the MLP art like it. That's all we know, aside from knowing a few other people that may like it.

There's also the massive number of artists who like it, since they're the ones creating the stuff. If you check the comments on the various sources, you'll see that it has quite a large furry fanbase as well.

I don't blacklist anything; I always get a good belly laugh at some of the twisted shit that gets posted.

Wow! You guys, or atleast the lead admin, sure know how to be good administrators! I'm so glad you've taken over e621 now and I can see how the site will keep being improved, I just wanted to say I as a e621 user really appreciate the work you've put into the site and I think you're doing a great job!

The other day I had the nice surprise of each page having significantly more pictures, and I see the goodness just keeps going on, me like :D

This blacklist "solution" sucks massively. Not only do I have to create and log in to an account (which I didn't want in the first place) to use it, but I have to enable javascript as well. Gee, thanks mods. Is there any other furry *booru I can go to, one where it isn't the case that 50+% of newly uploaded material is mlp shit?

E621 uses cookies, their implementing an anonymous blacklist, maybe if you'd actually read the threads instead of running your mouth you'd know that?

Sadly, you're not allowed to search only for removal tags, so you can't search for only -MLP, which sucks (not specifically the -MLP, but that you can't do a general "show me everything but this thing" search)

MLP people should know better then anyone, flooding turns people against you

Updated by anonymous

The main uploaders aim for periods of time when it will cause the least amount of trouble, blacklisting should take care of most of the whining, and, ultimately, the main point of an art archive is to archive art.

Jesus... Just looked at the tags. In the past, what, four months? We've gotten almost 4400 MLP posts. that's almost half of all the pokemon pictures we've gotten, ever. Please, posters, STOP FLOODING. >.< MLP is cool and all, but maybe there'd be less annoyance (from myself and others) if there wasn't so MUCH of it ALL THE TIME? (In my case, from fixing all the bad tags ARGH!) I don't wanna blacklist something I enjoy because it gives me a headache from dealing with it and the fans who so ardently defend their slang-as-tags.

Updated by anonymous

Again, art archives typically require art to archive. You can remove tags from your blacklist (and even search for blacklisted pictures) with ease, so I don't see a problem here.

If people are tagging poorly... thank you for fixing it. If you don't, someone else will.

If some people are consistantly poor taggers, send me a tell with their names and a link to their profile, and I'll have a word with them.

I don't wanna blacklist something I enjoy because it gives me a headache from dealing with it and the fans who so ardently defend their slang-as-tags.

the slang-as-tags don't generally hurt anyone. c_c if they're prevalent and describe an idea, then they're useful.

Yeah, people have been tagging poorly, and that what I've been fixing. I'll keep that in mind, but usuall I just fix the tags, not look a tthe history and see who is posting bad tags.

the slang-as-tags don't generally hurt anyone. c_c if they're prevalent and describe an idea, then they're useful.

It does when it's a one- or few-off slang tag that someone thought was "funny" (I use the term loosely) but has absolutely no bearing on the pic- Or if it's a meme saying that gets attached to images like scootabuse or scootalove. We have consolidated tags for a reason- ease of searching for that type of aspect (even if we're fixing them left right and center lately). Creating another tag that is a) basically just there to troll tag-fixers b) hard to search for unless you know the EXACT term, and c) spreading the meaning of a tag across several tags just hurts the site. One example I can name that I've fixed is the "forever" tag crap. It's a word, so it's text; If it's being said, dialogue (though i've been a bit lax on adding THAT one, atm), and lastly, added to the pool Pinkie Pie FOREVER. That's what the damn pools are for, isn't it? the stupid/silly slang meme crap, among others?

Yeah, we got plenty of art archived. We'll still get an influx of art to continue to archive as we go. But it'd be nice if it was SO MUCH, and so badly tagged, too. >.<

I definitely agree that all these fan names are too much.
A new name for every time a character acts a little out of the norm? Really?

I handle it, like so :
S'long as I can scoot through the "Comments" page and have, at least, one porn image between every four unrelated-to-porn MLP, I'm cool with it.

Eventually, this will stop working, but until then, it's cool.

Exactly how I feel. Good to know I'm not the ONLY one who noticed the flooding. And the uploaders DON'T choose certain times of day. They choose 24 hours a day.

I have to agree with *some* of the posters here.

Normally, I'm more of a lurker, rather than a comment poster, or uploader (occasionally adding a tag, or two), but the search bar becomes temporarily useless when you type, for example, "Scalie", or "Draconic" and a slur of "My Little Pony" pictures pop up, effectively drowning out the material that you're actually looking for.

I also agree with some others, on the point that My Little Pony shouldn't be removed, since it *is* legitimate uploading, but rather better tagged so that My Little Pony doesn't pop up during searches such as the previously mentioned tags.

The true issue at hand, however, isn't just with My Little Pony. Not only does My Little Pony practically dominate the search results, re-posts also dominate the search results and this effectively makes the search engine a very cluttered space.

That's just my two cents.

But.. spike *is* a dragon. He is both scalie, and draconic. :(
It's really simple to search dragon -my_little_pony or, dragon -spike_(mlp) (I'd go with the later as there are about 20 my little pony dragons that aren't spike-tagged that include dragons, like post #146640 or post #136551 .)... failing that, there's **always** the blacklist.

What people don't understand is that the black list isn't something you *have* to set up and leave permanently.

You CAN blacklist something you hate and always hate (scat, gore, my little pony, gay, whatever), but you CAN also use it for just filtering out things in the short term. If you might want to browse ponies formally, but are really itching for some good horse-porn or scalies-without-spikes, then you can add my_little_pony to your blacklist while you're searching, and you won't have to deal with remembering to -my_little_pony while you search around. I use this tool regularly when tagging or browsing for personal reasons because it's easier on the server, too.

Also, people can search with ratings also. dragon my_little_pony rating:e has only 33 images. dragon rating:e has thousands.

I also agree with some others, on the point that My Little Pony shouldn't be removed, since it *is* legitimate uploading, but rather better tagged so that My Little Pony doesn't pop up during searches such as the previously mentioned tags.

Thanks for being reasonable about uploading it :)
But.. how would you suggest that the dragons and ponies of the show be tagged? cartoon_horse? sure, alright, but what about post #142625 or post #139521 where those also are clearly cartoony? And by all reason, cartoon_horse should imply horse, so then you'd be searching for horse -cartoon_horse instead of horse -my_little_pony.. and with more debate about what is, or isn't a cartoon.

The true issue at hand, however, isn't just with My Little Pony. Not only does My Little Pony practically dominate the search results, re-posts also dominate the search results and this effectively makes the search engine a very cluttered space.

? If your problem is with reposts, TELL someone. don't jsut say "oh hey, I've seen this before". send me, or another admin a tell and say "Hey, this picture is a repost of post #XXXXX or "I'm almost positive this is a repost" --we WANT to get rid of reposts, but with over 130,000 images.. we... CAN'T keep up with all of it. we rely on the users to help us find them. :) We have measures in place to make it so that you can't upload the same picture twice, but people who resize, resample, save as a different file type, reframe, or otherwise edit images change the values involved so that the automated system can't catch them.

Or am I misunderstanding the problem?

Do you know what would be nice? if you could save a tag (single) for it to always check. this can be a -tag or a normal tag. Sorta like a quickie blacklist/whitelist that can be modified without having to go to the settings page every time (a bit annoying).

I fully understand what you're saying and I can certainly see where the confusion seems to pop up for quite a few people.

I don't believe that you're misunderstanding the majority of it, however I do assert that now that I have an actual e621 account (I wasn't sure if non-members were capable), I can, and will report/flag reposts, or irrelevant material. As I said, before, I was more of a lurker, but I'd much rather try to contribute a little help, here and there.

The general ideal of my post was, perhaps a poor use of an example (if so, that's a "my bad" moment, but reading back on it, I do realize that I left quite a few things out that I actually intended to type).
Speaking in a general sense, the opt-out feature for the search bar is a handy little feature, however when talking about other people, features and so forth seem to glide out of the window, as 'some' aren't aware of the features and 'some' just don't want to use the feature and only want to complain, or suffer in their self-made browsing Hell. If one is to complain about the amount of posts of Ligers, for an example and this becomes a problem, then the amount of posts of other material (providing that said other material has had complaints) and the Ligers become a much bigger problem than the other, even though both (let's say for the sake of argument) have the same amount of complaints, this will make some complain even more.

I hope that you're able to understand what I'm trying to say and if not, I do apologize. There's a ton of background noise and it's proving to be difficult to concentrate on exactly the right words that I want to use. >_<

We're not changing all the pony posts to "Cartoon horse" given that everything on here is drawing save for "Real" their all by definition drawn or "Cartoon" horses. Pony stays pony, and gets implied to horse {Being that ponies are a sub species OF horse} and thus implied to equine, end of story.

People are ALWAYS going to find something to complain about, weather it be gideons mighty tube cocks, crystal for evers rather clustered look, feral looking "Anatomical correct" bits. It doesn't matter, someone is always gonna complain and ignore the very hand black list and search features, char has also started making videos Further detailing these features, so no one will have any excuse beyond that point to complain beyond the sake of complaining. Yes, MLP got a Lot of content uploads, but it has slowed recently.

Before I had decided to create an e621 account, I was usually browsing the images, trying to find great art and due to only browsing for art, rather than tips and tricks, I wasn't sure if non-members could report, or Blacklist reposts, or irrelevant material, as SnowWolf suggested.
I didn't know about the tweaks in the search bar until 'after' I created an account and began to try and figure out a way to clear out any unwanted results, or material that kept popping up.

Now that I know about most of this, I'm more than happy to use the features, as well as report any irrelevant posts, or reposts.

I hope that clarified it a little. :)

I completely agree that people will always find something to complain about, even if they have to dig something up.
Although in my opinion, it seems to be like a never-ending Yo-Yo with visitors, or members complaining about this, or that and the moderators and/or administrators trying to fix this, or that, but even when things are fixed, people still complain.

I, personally, have had no reason to complain about the MLP content since I've begun filtering out what I don't want to see, but I even checked out some of the MLP artwork and was impressed by the detail of the art and the same is true for other pieces of art that I really wasn't looking for, but found anyway, but after a while I decided to start putting the search features to use.

My point, and question (now that I can semi-think without being interrupted) is, if I can do it.. then why can't everyone else?
Excluding those who don't know how, or didn't even know the features existed, of course. Rather than making a big to-do about MLP, or other tags, or artwork that seem to dominate the search engine, why not just take the actions that I took, if they already knew about the features?

I suppose that it could be boiled down to just wanting to argue, or complain. <_< I may have just answered my own question.

Because watching ten million users ignore the OP so they can rant about MLP helps to undermine any unjustified faith in mankind.

Plus it helps me find people to smack.

I got accused of being biased towards my little pony the other day and only demeriting users who spoke badly of it... until I pointed out that 80% of the pony haters I've swatted came from this thread. Ahhh...

I wish there were more users with your opinion. I don't understand, myself, why others can't do it because it IS so simple. I've actually been told that blacklist is a horrible solution, though when pressed, he couldn't come up with anything more specific then "it doesn't take context into account, and hides things I might like too"

Maybe there could be a way for individual users to filter certain tags. That way, people can post MLP and those who don't want to see it don't have to.

Yes, something like a list, something we could put all the things that fill our hearts with blackness on. Something like a...vuvuzelalist...

Text is a poor media for using linguistic subtleties like irony or sarcasm, so I'm not really sure if you're being serious or not.

If you are being serious, you might consider visiting the wiki entries help:blacklist and e621:blacklist.

Are there any Street Fighter/Pony crossovers yet? I want to see a pony doing a dragon-punch or a sonic boom.

First off, fan art's illegal, cooperation don't touch it because's beneficial to their business.

Second off, Caps lock is not your friend.

I posed the question about Fan fiction to Piers Anthony. He said he doesn't like or encourage it as he feels it dilutes and rip's off his own work. Just my two cents. Intellectual property is a tricky subject.

Updated by anonymous

Yeah, some artists are fine with it (H.P. Lovecraft loved fan works), while others think they're the antichrist.

So.. the bottom line is this:

Fanfic is like anal sex.

COORPERATIONS like it. The artists themselves are a completely different story.

That's pretty funny coming from an author who freely uses fan submitted puns in his longest running series of books. It would be hard to dilute Xanth more than he's already done himself.

Except they give up all rights to their submissions on sending, and he still is the one that picks and chooses which to use and how to use them, giving them his own twist. On the other hand, the books seem to be just pun after pun to a degree that it interrupts the story lately, unlike the much better quality of the original 10-20 or so novels.

Updated by anonymous

more importantly.. how does using fan submitted puns "dilute" a book? Aside from pun-overload as 123 suggests...

personally, I don't think I've ever managed to get past Yon Ill Wing... if that far.. as that was the "new" book when I was devouring them so rabidly.

on a more recent attempt to chug though all of them, I think I got stuck on Ogre, Ogre. ...which is particularly sad because I want to say Night Mare was one of my favorites, and also a bit strange because I seem to recall reading Crewel Lye recently...

I really should give it another shot. I think I ran out of steam last time because I came at Xanth after reading all of the incantations of immortality (or whichever) and while I do dearly enjoy Piers' work... well.. both he and Anne McCaffery are not as "delicious" as I remembered them being... and I tend to get ~annoyed~ by their.. well.. considerably older perspectives on life and women (The Freedom series ._. the last book ESPECIALLY made me want to scream.)... Pern was.... be...tter? but I think I got through the original trilogy, harper hall, Master Harper, moreta, and around the time I started going through renegates, all the weyrs and the dolphins, I was seriously running out of forward momentum. I started reading the Skies of pern.. paused, looked over at my buddy who'd recently read them alll "This character, in the first 50 or so pages who is clearly, and vividly setting himself up to the bad guy. He's the bad guy, isn't he? He's going to be miserably, and insufferably "the bad guy" until someone kills him, and there's no redemption for him, even though most of hisideas are based around false truths, isn't he?" "yup." and then I set the book down. ._. havn't touched Todd MacCaffrey's books. hear that's for the better.

I'll resume eventually, just right now I'm nomming Star Wars (jedi Academy Trilogy, yay)... andwhen I get done with THAT... I'm thinking Valdemar.

YAY books

Updated by anonymous

I've never read anything by Piers. But I definitely enjoyed the first three or four Pern books. Then I hit Harper Hall and thought it was pretty shit and left McAffrey for more cyborg-laden waters.

Updated by anonymous

Oddly, Harper Hall is my favorite of hers--but those were he books that let me get "into" it, maybe years ago when I was a young, impressionable teenage girl... which makes sence, because it was very easy to self insert into those books :3

Valdemar is BEAUTIFUL. A definite recommendation. Alo, if you haven't read them yet, look into the Renshai series by Mickey Zucker Reichert. Some hackneying, but it's generally minor enough to be either ignored or glossed over. Also, anything by Brandon Sanderson- Especially Warbreaker and his Mistborn series.

Also, if you haven't yet, anything by Terry Pratchett. :P

YES! Get rid all of MLP pictures because they are NOT FURRY!

I have a question for you. How are they not furry? Yes, it's based off of a children's show, but a horse is born with fur. They are portrayed as sentient, semi-anthromorphic characters in the show. What is a furry, then? A sentient, anthromorphic character. The only real difference is the "Semi-" before the word "Anthromorphic". Therefore, you really have no right to decide what is furry and what is not furry.
