As a common noun, a pegasus is a winged equine. As a proper noun, Pegasus was a character in Greek mythology.
The original Pegasus was an immortal winged horse (pterippus) born of the blood of the Gorgon Medusa, fertilized by Poseidon when the blood fell into the sea when the hero Perseus chopped off her head. Other winged horses have also appeared across the world, but in modern usage, "pegasus" refers to any winged horse regardless of origin.
__________
If a creature is equine and possesses both a horn and wings, it should be tagged as winged unicorn instead. Pegasus should not be tagged with either horse or pony for the same character.
