Overview
Team Plasma is a villainous team in the Pokémon franchise that appears in Pokémon Black and White, and their sequels Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. They are based in Unova.
Hierarchy and Appearances
In Black and White, Team Plasma is lead by Natural Harmonia Gropius (whose name is usually shortened to simply "N"). The Team Plasma grunts repeatedly refer to N as their "King". N can be recognised by his green eyes, his tea-green hair tied into a sort of ponytail, and his black-and-gray cap. He also wears a white jacket, black undershirt, gray pants, and green shoes, along with a rounded black band on his right arm and three square gold bands on his left arm.
Team Plasma also has seven Sages who are key notable members of Team Plasma. These are named Gorm, Bronius, Rood, Zinzolin, Giallo, Ryoku, and Ghetsis, the latter of whom acts as the Sages' internal leader. Ghetsis has uniquely-styled long gray-green hair, red eyes, and a red lens covering his right eye. He has a purple robe with intricate golden and red designs, and a large bronze collar encrusted with blue square gems.
Each of the other Sages wears a tall cylindrical hat atop their heads and basic garbs with the Team Plasma insignia on. Additionally, they have different arrangements of heavy mustaches and beards, apart from Zinzolin, who lacks facial hair entirely.
Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 introduces a new character, a scientist known as Colress. He is recognised by his yellow eyes, blue glasses, and short blonde hair which has a long blue strip that orbits it from the top left of his head and round to the center right. He also wears a gray labcoat coupled with high-tech gloves, black dress-pants, and black-and-gray shoes.
Story and Goals
In Black and White, Team Plasma's goal is to "free" Pokémon from human control, whether by convincing the trainers to release their Pokémon, or theft. It is slowly revealed that Ghetsis took N under his care when the latter was an orphaned child and trained him up to be the King of Team Plasma. Ghetsis had also fostered two additional humans; these were two females named Anthea and Concordia. Thus, Ghetsis was the true ruler of Team Plasma. Ghetsis reveals he had used N as a pawn all along in order to befriend Reshiram (in Black) or Zekrom (in White), and leave Ghetsis as the only user of Pokémon and thus rule all of Unova. Ghetsis battles the player character in a rage after the reveal. He is then arrested. N leaves Team Plasma behind and flies away on his befriended legendary dragon.
In Black 2 and White 2, Team Plasma returns with a new plan to conquer Unova, now lead by Colress and Ghetsis. They also wear a new uniform which is primarily black, in contrast to the light navy and white uniforms they wore in Black and White. Throughout the game, they perform such acts as freezing Opelucid City with a cannon powered by Kyurem.
There is also a small group of Team Plasma who supported N, and thus split off from the new group and made it their priority to look after sick and injured wild Pokémon, along with searching for N and opposing the new Team Plasma. They can be recognised easily, as they continued to wear the old uniform instead of switching to the new uniform. The new Team Plasma are often referred to as "Neo Team Plasma" to avoid confusion. N appears at a few points towards the end of the story to assist the player, and even battles them with his Zekrom (in Black 2) or Reshiram (in White 2), before reverting the Pokémon to its stone state and allowing the player to revive and catch said dragon.
Gorm, Rood, and Zinzolin re-appear in Black 2 and White 2, but Bronius, Giallo, and Ryoku are absent. Rood leads the old Team Plasma in search of N, whereas Zinzolin instead serves Ghetsis and assists him in his goal of controlling Kyurem. Gorm makes a brief appearance during the post-game in Pinwheel Forest where he congratulates the player for having brought Zinzolin to justice, and admits to them that he had gone there to admonish Zinzolin himself.
Other
Colress re-appears in Pokémon Sun and Moon, in which he is a minor character that simply battles the player to test their skills.
