major arcana
The major arcana are a set of 22 cards complementing the minor arcana in the tarot card deck. They are commonly used in either fortune telling or playing card games depending on country. On e621, viewers are far more likely to encounter the former than the latter.
The major arcana typically feature custom-made art, often rich with symbolism, and cards can have a different name depending on deck. The most common names (based on the Rider-Waite-Smith deck) are listed below. The major arcana of playing card versions of the tarot deck are instead called trumps and only name a few of the cards, such as The Fool and The World.
