Black Mage is the most recognizable job in the Final Fantasy series out of all the others. As the more destructive spellcaster of the mages, they can cast a wide array of powerful elemental spells and sometimes spells that can debilitate the enemy. However, they can occasionally use supportive spells as well, like in the first game in the series. The job's iconic pointy wizard hat and blue wizard robe have remained relatively unchanged throughout the series.

Though the job has existed since Final Fantasy I, represented primarily by humans (or possibly humanoids) shrouding their faces in shadow under their hats, minus the glowing eyes, it is personified by Vivi Ornitier -- a character from Final Fantasy IX who is of the "black mage" race.
