Regions in an irregular grid may vary in size and shape, and all of the gutters must align.

Staggered grids

A staggered grid refers to when number of regions in each row are the same, and the number of regions in each column are the same, but the gutter space does not align. This type of grid should not be tagged as a grid layout.

Partial grids

A partial grid layout occurs when only part of the image is divided up into a grid region. Do not tag these as a grid layout. Use the grid count tag for the type of grid it resembles instead (standard / staggered).
