Cathode ray tube (also known as CRT) is a mostly obsolete technology used in electronic equipment such as monitors and televisions. The dimensions of the tubes required a large housing shell giving the technology its distinctive bulky appearance. CRT technology was replaced by Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) technology resulting in the greatly reduced monitor dimensions we see today.
