Horizontal staggering is an image layout term that refers to a situation when rows (horizontally-aligned) image frames/panels share a common edge (an unbroken line between adjacent frames), but the positions at which the image frames meet on that common edge do not form an intersection/grid pattern. In other words, there is a common edge, but the shapes of the panels do not meet in the same areas along that common edge.

Tagging notes

Staggering only occurs along the border between adjacent image frames. The intersection where the border terminates does not apply towards this tag's definition.

Extra note: A little extra border space can be ignored for the purposes of layout tagging.
