I quickly took it off, and saw my fiancee in front of me, looking at me with such contempt! What had I said? What had I done when I wore this crown? All I know is, I never saw Betty again."

Simon Petrikov is a character from the animated series Adventure Time. He was born over 1000 years prior to the start of the series and is currently 1058 years old.

Simon Petrikov was originally an antiquarian, a historian, and an occultist and was engaged to his fiancé Betty Grof. One day, Simon purchased a gold crown from a dockworker in Scandinavia and showed it to Betty, jokingly putting it on. As soon as he did, he started experiencing visions and hallucinations saying things to Betty that he could not remember. As time went on, Simon discovered that the crown's magic kept him alive and gave him powerful magical powers over ice and snow. However, it was also slowly driving him insane, overriding his personality with that of its previous users. Following, The Great Mushroom War, Simon was one of the few people from the old world able to survive the end of the world. During which, he also found Marceline Abadeer and helped raise and protect her throughout her childhood. However, doing so required him to make more and more use of the Ice Crown, causing his sanity to deteriorate more and more and for his body to change. Eventually, he left Marceline on her own as a Teenager, fearing that he would eventually become a bigger danger to her than any zombies, vampires, or monsters. At one point, he had been enslaved by The Empress, a member of The Vampire King's Court.

By the time of the main series Simon is now the Ice King a mad old wizard who is obsessed with kidnapping princesses and forcing them to marry him. This is because princess was the term of endearment used by Simon when talking about Betty. He rules over The Land of Ice and Snow, also known as the Ice Kingdom full of snow golems, ice monsters, and penguins who are all named Gunther. It is revealed that negating the magic of the Ice Crown through entities such Bella Noche and GOLB can temporarily or even permanently revert Ice King back to Simon. However, trying to use the Ice Crown while he's still alive will not transfer the curse of the crown only allow you to use his powers.

Marceline, Finn after discovering the truth of Simon, The Empress, and later Betty Grof all perceive Ice King as Simon Petrikov first and for most, and they often try to connect with Simon even though he is too far gone.

Simon Petrikov is a human male, with olive skin and dark brown hair. He prefers to wear a dark suit with a red bow tie and his trademark blue eyeglasses. Before his curse, Simon had dark eyes, similar to Finn's, but afterward, his eyes turned white and remained so to the present day.
