"Once in a Lifetime" is a song recorded in 1980 by American new wave band Talking Heads that is featured on their fourth studio album, Remain in Light (1980). It was written by the band's four members (David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, and Tina Weymouth) and the song's producer Brian Eno. Its lyrics deals with existential crisis and the unconscious. It was released as a single in January 1981.
The song is well-known for its music video, directed by frontman David Byrne and singer Toni Basil, which features a bespectacled Byrne in a suit and bowtie doing various erratic dances and movements in a front of a white background (a blue screen) that shows either video footage of religious rituals or of multiple Byrnes doing similar movements.
