Delphox, known as the Fox Pokémon, is a dual-type Fire/Psychic Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.

It evolves from Braixen at level 36 and is the final form of Fennekin.

Biology

Delphox is a bipedal Pokémon resembling a fox. Its body is covered with a coat of long fur that resembles a cloak or a dress. This "cloak" is mainly red with orange flame-shaped markings on the knees. This fox has a fine tuft of white fur on its torso, covered by yellow fur that extends to its shoulders.

The fur on its forearms is longer than that on its arms, giving the illusion of sleeves. This Pokémon's paws are black with three hooked toes each. Its tail, covered with yellow fur, protrudes from its "dress" and its head is yellow with longer white fur on the cheeks.

This Pokémon has red eyes and a thin muzzle with a orange nose. Three tufts of orange fur grow in each of its ears and two pointed teeth can be seen on its upper jaw when its mouth is open.

Delphox, like the rest of its evolutionary family, is inspired by the fennec. It also shares characteristics with a kitsune, a Yokai fox from Japanese folklore...

The branch that Delphox uses is: a magic wand. It's a reference to Western witches/wizards. Its "outfit" is reminiscent of the popular representation of a wizard, while its abilities are inspired by oracles, such as the Delphic Oracle, from which its English name is derived.
Moreover, its witch-like characteristics and appearance, and its Fire type, are possible references to the witch-hunts organized to burn women accused of witchcraft. In addition, when considered with other starter Pokémon of its generation (Chesnaught and Greninja): it seems to be inspired by the magician character class or by the Mage Class in RPG, through its Psy type, appearance and wand.

Delphox carries a stick that it uses like a magic wand; when in use, the tip is set alight, and when not in use, the stick is hidden away in its sleeve-like fur. Delphox gazes into the flame at the tip of its "wand" to achieve a focused state of mind that allows it to see into the future. It can use its psychic power to ensnare its enemies in a fiery vortex capable of reaching 5,400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Delphox is always depicted as an anthro. Finally, this Starter is very often represented as a female.
