I had wondered about that and almost added it to my post. Glad to hear that is an acceptable practice, and even more glad to hear it from an admin 'cause, well, I didn't want to sound like a total ass if I was wrong.
Is there a particular admin(s) that it is preferable to send such messages to?

What Pickle said + you can check the mod log to see who's been online the most recently. If it's something that needs immediate attention (read: CP in the queue, malicious file, etc.) I'd also send an email to Dave.

Maybe it would be better if new members can't post blips for a few days/week...

Maybe so.
Might also be good to limit every user to 5-10 blips every half hour or hour.

This seems like a good idea as well, I'll bring it up with the committee.

Is there a way to know the md5 hash of a flash/webm post?
Never mind, the download link shows it

How about adding a 'published' date field to the 'This post is paysite or commercial content under two years old' flag? I imagine that it'd make it easier to undelete those, and easier for the mods to check if they're properly flagged, too.

Sometimes it's not always obvious exactly when it was published, particularly for Patreon stuff where it's only technically DNP for about a month or so (think backer perks). That being said, I've recently been making an effort to edit pools that are DNP with the published date (e.g., pool #4527) to make it easier for this purpose. If the post is over 2 years old it can probably be restored without much trouble if you ask one of the mods, but under certain circumstances (e.g., takedowns submitted after the post was removed) it may not be.

Requested Feature: A way to undo user edits on posts from a certain date, range of dates, or selectively

Reason: In case of mass mistagging from users without revoking the entire history

-
I think the selective undo feature already exists

Updated by anonymous

Requested feature (1):
Add a "pool" attribute to the show results.

Why it would be useful (1):
So programs won't have to scrape the HTML to determine if the picture is part of a public pool.

Requested feature (2):
Add documentation about the format of the created_at attribute.

Why it would be useful (2):
"'created_at': {'json_class': 'Time', 'n': 54661000, 's': 1401121548}," is not inherently understandable. You can assume "s" is seconds, but what is "n" and when is zero seconds?

Edit: I figured out the time is POSIX time, so 's' is seconds and 'n' is nanoseconds after the seconds. The API page should still be updated. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_time

Why this would be useful: so you could find the images you want within a specific pool.

Alternative: make pools searchable.

I apologize if this has been requested before - I didn't check - but, it would be really nice to have an avatar-specific blacklist. Right now I'm stuck between the two options of applying my entire blacklist to avatars, or applying no part of my blacklist to avatars.

I have a good amount of stuff blacklisted, not because it's offensive, but because I just don't find it sexy at all. For instance, "sonic rating:e". On the other hand, I have some stuff blacklisted because I can't stand to look at it. Gore and scat, for instance.

So I have three options. One, block a whole bunch of avatars that I'd rather not block, and miss seeing how people choose to identify themselves. Two, see a bunch of stuff I really would like to not see, by not applying the blacklist to avatars. And three, changing my blacklist so it only cuts out the most offensive things, which would make my search results once again filled with stuff irrelevant to my interests. I don't really like any of those options. I dunno.

It's probably a very unsatisfactory solution, but you might be able to play with unblocking by id #.

So for example gore -id:6268 in your blacklist should hypothetically unblock only that one post with the cheese grater. I haven't tried it (I suspect it might be prone to easily breaking) but it might be worth doing for certain people that you see frequently.

Updated by anonymous

I guess that makes the applying-the-full-blacklist option slightly better, but not enough to choose it over the not-applying-blacklist-to-avatars option I'm currently using. Still, I appreciate the idea.

Adding a bit of color or something to the [Admin] Status under their profile icons. one of our users just noted that at first glance it looks like just any other user, especially if your just scrolling through the comments.

Set it as Red or Orange or something, maybe make their name colored. make it eyecatching, aka "HEY! MY NAMES IN COLOR! IM AN ADMIN LISTEN TO ME!" lol

Requested feature:
Larger preview thumbnail sizes for image search results (optional setting).

Why it would be useful:
Even with the current size it can be easy to unknowingly skip over some artwork found in search results.
It would also clarify the content of images much more clearly.

Has something like this possibly been considered before?

I won't say much about the feature itself, but I when I do tagging projects I like to use the browser's zoom feature (ctrl +, cmd +, 125%, etc.) to make them easier to see at a glance. It won't make them better quality, but it might be worth trying.

We've actually got something like this in the works, but we're having trouble getting the Comic Sans to render properly in certain browsers (namely Opera).

You can see a preview here if your curious.

Woah, isn't that a bit... Colorful? A single color would be just as effective. The voice of an admin should be heard, not make your ears (and eyes) bleed. And how come the authoritative voice gets the "kids" font?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=80&v=zq7Eki5EZ8o

It's a popular font, I understand that, but that doesn't make it suitable in all settings. After all, it was created to NOT be a formal font.

The ability to post more than one image at a time.

Why it would be useful:
I just got this idea as I'm about to post a series of images. It's probably not an original one but I think it's worth saying.

Kind of straight forward really, it would be useful because it can be a pain going through the uploading process over and over again when you find a completed comic that hasn't been uploaded before.

It's not exactly a must have, just something to think about.

Reqested Feature
Left/Right cusor keys flip to the respective page in a pooled post
Why it would be useful
QoL, makes flipping pages a whole lot smoother for touchpads & touchscreens(Surface and android/iOS with bluetooth keyboards would benefit from this), and it's already a feature on plenty of non-image boards that focus on comics.

Upload a crop an tag it as a variant?

Requested Feature: Display either the full pixel size of resized percentage ("This image is displayed at XXX% of its original size. ") on upload page

Usefull Because: Personally (and I suspect many people who don't download images before uploading), I'm not always entirely aware of the actual size of the picture I'm uploading, and it's useful to notice whether you're missing tags like absurd_resé

I wouldn't be against showing resolution on the upload page. It would be especially nice for those times where you use the source field to upload (who knows what's on the other end).

Make sure that you don't have any files selected under "Choose File", and that the direct path to the file (e.g., https://www.site.net/i/file.jpg) is the first url when you hit upload. Note that it doesn't work for some sites which require login (namely inkbunny and also pixiv I believe).

Aaaah. I get images showing if I put the main, e.g. FA url, but I never put image URLs. I thought that was what you were referring too.

As for inkbunny, it's probably the same as for the Source url. If you replace "https:" with "http:" at the beginning of the url, it should work like a charm (this trick doesn't work for pixiv though).

Neat, I'll have to remember to try this one; I've had mixed luck with uploading from there in the past and that would probably explain it.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, posts on InkBunny can be hidden from public, so they're only visible if you're logged in. If an image's visible without being logged in, you shouldn't have problems with uploading it from there directly. That's how I'm uploading the Raven Wolf comic pages. I don't even have an IB account.

Requested feature: Make wiki link on index pages when searching for aliased single tags show the parent tag's wiki instead of the aliased tag's wiki.

Why it would be useful: Either the wiki link will be nonexistent and hence you will not be able to see the proper wiki page defining the tag (since no wiki will then exist for the aliased tag), or the wiki will go to an inaccurate or mostly blank redirect page. The confusion about seeing the wiki for butt instead of ass when searching for ass is probably very minor and the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Either way if you really want to show the aliased tag's wiki you can search for it or access it through the parent tag's wiki.

+1 to this. While it's good practice to include a redirect link for the most common aliases (gay -> male/male), it tends to quickly clutter up the search results. There's also a ton of old wiki links still present that need to be updated (I've went through a lot already), but it's not always easy to search for those unfortunately. :/

On a related note, I usually find it more helpful to search by Body rather than by Title.

eSix Extend actually has something like this built in. It may not have exactly what you are looking for, but it lets you navigate pools with the keyboard, which is pretty handy to have.

Requested feature: Searching in forum actually searches for the word I want and don't try to be overly smart about it by e.g. truncating my search. I tried to search for "bedding" and all i could find was lots and lots of "bed", "sitting" yields "sit", "keying" yields "key" etc. Plural forms sort of makes sense but this is weird (and what about names?). In summary: Give an option to turn of this "AI" search.

Why it would be useful: You find the stuff you search for.

Requested feature: Option to not apply the blacklist while browsing your own favourites. The only current way of achieving this (that I know of) is to append -fav:self to each line of the blacklist, which is not very efficient.

Why it would be useful: Someone may have exceptions to their blacklist that they can't allow without making numerous complex rules. Favouriting a post seems like a convenient way of indicating it as one of those exceptions.

How it could be implemented: For this specific case, adding a "Apply blacklist to favourites" tickbox in the blacklist settings would fit. A wider solution might be to implement a whitelist that overrides the blacklist, but that can be for another day.

Updated by anonymous

Requested feature: Make the /post_flag_history page wrap text to the next line rather than cutting off like this http://i.imgur.com/2xeGbrN.jpg

Why would it be useful: Reading the uploader deletion reason is kind of a pain to do on my iPad. Currently I just sort of select the row and paste it into somewhere (usually the address bar).

Updated by anonymous

Requested feature: Permission to revert own changes in pools (instead of getting an "Access denied" error).
Why it would be useful: Don't have to bother more privileged users about an error made by oneself that could easily and quickly be fixed by oneself.

Requested feature: Thumbnail on FFD page shows actual thumbnail instead of "Deleted" thumbnail.
Why it would be useful: Since there is a thumbnail it might as well show the real thing, certainly won't hurt.

This is kind of an aside, but as a general workaround you can usually just use non-breaking spaces instead (opt+space on OS X, I believe Windows uses alt+255 but it's been a while). It's a bit of a crutch but it works well enough in a pinch (and not just on here).

Requested feature: (Or "Bug:") Make DText [code] NOT do double newlines for every one entered, i.e. don't generate extraneous <br> (since it's already styled with white-space: pre;). Not apparent in preview, only when live (and IIRC it hasn't behaved like this before).
Why it would be useful: Less "Why so much space?" and more "Looks nice!", if one want more newlines one can always put them there oneself.

Requested feature: show deletion reason for deleted images on md5: search request.

Why it would be useful: for future reference, to avoid making the same mistake.

I have a bunch of images lying around which were deleted from esix and I have absolutely no idea why they were deleted. Should I re-upload it? Or another image from the same artist? Or otherwise similar image? Should I perhaps add the artist to DNL list?

Limiting this to md5 requests only means this info will be available only to those who have the file, or at least viewed it and have enough patience to dig through their history. For everybody else, the file will remain deleted.

Requested feature: allow searching for md5 without md5: prefix.
Requested feature: strip file name extensions from md5 requests.
Specifically when the search request $rq =~ /^([0-9a-f]{32})(\..+)/, treat it as if it was md5:$1. It's not like any valid tag will match that pattern, ever.

Why it would be useful: paste file name in the search field, and hurray, you have the image. Or maybe a reason why it was deleted. Currently this is somewhat complicated, like type md5: before, paste file name, remove prefix, blah blah blah, pusheen_too_lazy_cant_move.png.

Requested feature: when a search results in a single image, redirect to that image immediately without showing the results page.

Why it would be useful: well md5 searches again. Hash collisions are rare-to-nonexistant.

Personally I wouldn't like that, don't like when a program tries to guess what I want or does completely different things for very similar input (unless strongly emphasized). If only available as an option, then sure.

Use https://e621.net/post/show?md5=[value]. If the MD5 doesn't exist, you'll get a simple "The post doesn't exist" message

Ex.: https://e621.net/post/show?md5=c3538f7a246562a57e154c90af4d1fc7

Updated by anonymous

Xch3l: cool, thanks, I did not know that trick.
And it shows deletion reasons, too.

A minor improvement suggestion then:

Requested feature: search request for "md5-value.ext" should be handled as, or maybe redirect to, https://e621.net/post/show?md5=md5-value instead of a regular search results page.

Why it would be useful: easy to use search for filename. Paste filename, click "Search".
This should not change current system anyhow, just kinda extend it, because it's not like "md5-value.ext" could ever match any tag or anything.

Chessax: eh, yeah, I should have put it differently. Doing that for general searches would also bypass blacklist, not a good thing.
The key point was that md5 searches are different, and should better be handled differently. Because unlike regular seach requests, they are never expected to return more than one image.

Updated by anonymous

hslugs said:

No prob! There was some time where attempting to download a post redirected to that URL (iirc, it was /post/md5redirect?md5=[value] instead) and since then I've used that. At the moment it wasn't documented, but now it is.

It's useful if somebody sends you the direct image link and you want to fave it :V

Updated by anonymous

Requested feature: Display thumbnail of parent post on child post's page.
Why it would be useful: Often find myself clicking on the parent and going "Meh". If a thumbnail it would make it pretty clear what I'm going to see. Only real problem would probably be that tags would be pushed downwards, but it might be an acceptable thing. Or implement it as an optional setting.

hslugs said:

Requested feature: Say you want to browse some art, but you don't know what you're in the mood for. What if there was some sort of tool that took tags from your favorite posts, and made a search that had tags similar to the most common tags in your favorites? I think it would be a neat idea to implement a tool and/or tab at the top of the screen to view suggested posts.

Why it would be useful: It might also show you new artists whose styles you like but would've otherwise never heard of. I browse YouTube quite often, and have found many new channels that I really like because there is just such a tool there. It would help the artists get the fame they deserve for the art they worked hard on, and it would also bring users more quality content.

This idea doesn't sound good. I'm pretty sure that mammal is most common tag in my favorites, but I don't think it's a very meaningful information.

To be honest I think that better idea is algorithm that is run once on a while and check for people who voted most similarly to you. Then it suggests pics that you could probably be interested in based on how those people voted. I saw such an algorithm on imdb clone website. Also inkbunny uses something similar though it's based on favs from people you watch, which is probably less accurate.

Wow; two years ago someone requested private favorites. I actually tried removing a couple favs, thinking OK the world does not need to know I am into that. Heck at least one I find (with dialog) morally questionable. But I found that removing favs does not always work. One fav is in fact listed twice. It was listed three times. I'm not sure if that's from an issue from my mobile connection or what. So this evening I went just about all in, favorited whatever with abandon, because I'm pretty much out of the closet now.

Edit: Now that I gave it some thought, as much as I want private favorites/upvotes, allowing users to have private lists of deep dark secrets may not good idea (and could pollute ratings as it is but that's a side matter). What I'd like to see is some sort of confirmation for adding favorites (for accidental clicks, especially on mobile, in addition to the reason of "think twice"/"A good name is to be chosen rather than..."), and making favorites permanent after 48 hours once removing favorites is working properly again. Maybe even require a captcha to remove a favorite.

Requested Feature: When on a post that is within a pool, tap the image to go to the next image

Why it would be useful: Convience purposefully, and while on mobile I always manage to tap something else.

Tapping images is already used for toggling the translation notes on translated pictures, so that wouldn't work.
