Requested feature: taggroup tag

Why it would be useful: if you want to see images that are based on other things you can add taggroup:copyright and only see images with copyright tags or alternatively you could do -taggroup:copyright if you don't want to see any copyrighted images.

(Sry, I don't know how to bold words)

Technically this option should already be something you can do, but searching grouptags is still broken. It was reported awhile back but either got lost or is very far down a long priority list. In any case, the information about how it would be done is basically by using one of these:

gentags:2
arttags:2
chartags:2
copytags:2
speciestags:2
"Searches for posts with two general, artist, character, copyright, or species tags.
Accepts range syntax."

So in theory you could change any of those to a value of "0" and it would search for any posts without. As in searching copytags:0 should allow you to see all posts without any copyright tags. However this feature is still broken: so what you get is a random mixture of some of the results you asked for, some you didn't ask for and no way to know how many results it didn't show you but should have. And on some searches, it won't do anything at all, just show you the regular page of all results, recently uploaded first. *headdesk* So you can try it still, but it's just a mess until they get it fixed (whenever that may be).

Using Range Syntax with these is also broken. Again, no idea when they're fixing it.

However, all the things you can do to customise searches (some of which actually do still work like they're meant to) are listed here: https://e621.net/help/cheatsheet#Searching_Post_Metatags

It's really frustrating that some of these search options don't work right now. But the things that do work are tremendously useful, so the link is still useful for those.

There is a way, actually. You can search for different tagcounts. For example, copytags:>0 and copytags:0 would be pretty much the same as your suggested taggroup:copyright and -taggroup:copyright searches, respectively. Read this cheatsheet for further search tips.

Also, read this for text formatting help.

Edit: furrypickle beat me to it. I knew I should've refreshed the page before posting.

Why it would be useful: it would be easier to track favorites authors updates, to keep and share list of favorite authors

Updated by anonymous

Requested Feature: Add source tags based on citation
Why it would be useful: Particularly, the pixiv tag is often missed when appropriate. I already suggested in forum #135222 that the tag should be aliased to invalid_tag. However, if this alias is denied, then this would be the alternative. I believe pixiv doesn't have a culture relevant to most anglophones (and hence the tag won't have much use besides referring to the source), and I already see the tag being used exclusively for reference to the source in e6's sample of pixiv images.

I think you can do that by tag subscriptions, but only if you are a privileged user (or higher). I'm just a simple member so I can't tell you much about it.

Requested feature: adding a column on the tag list to indicate if the tag is described in the wiki. If yes, there should be a link to it.

Why it would be useful: People can easier access the wiki page while searching for tags if the wiki page exists. It will be also easier to see which tags are missing a wiki page.

Pretty sure that already exists halfway. When you see a tag in the tag list, there's a question mark right in front of it that you can click on and it will take you straight to the wiki for that tag. A lot of tags may not have a wiki yet so it may be a blank page. But when it has a good wiki, that's really useful.

It makes it really easy to see if it has a wiki yet, and if so what condition that wiki is in.

Also if you search a tag that has a wiki, then right next to the "Trending Tags" section under the search box will be an additional link to the "Wiki" for that tag. You can click it and it will show the first part of the wiki entry right there, with a link to take you to see the "Full Entry >>" at the bottom of it. But if it doesn't have a wiki, then that extra "wiki" link won't show up when you search it. For an example, you can search straight and click the word "Wiki" right next to "Trending Tags" and you'll see what I mean.

So it's mostly there. The only thing not in place is that there is no easy shortcut to see if a tag has a full wiki without loading the page to see the entry yourself.

But in the end that may be a good thing. Since many wiki entries that do exist aren't really that helpful on a what-is-this-tag-for level. So just the fact there is a wiki entry (text written in its wiki page) doesn't always mean it's a useful entry. A way of seeing that there is text in a wiki page without actually viewing the wiki page would give a false sense of it being "done" even for entries that are useless/misleading/unclear/outdated, etc. So I think needing to actually load the wiki page to see what is actually written there (or if it's blank) is better than a shortcut in this case.

But we do have most of what you're looking for: 1, a column on the tag page to link straight to the wiki for that tag, and 2, easy link to an existing wiki page from the search page when searching a single tag. So there's that.

Requested feature: Adding the links to the reverse images search engines, and to the DNP list in the uploading page. Also adding a warning with an "are you sure" button every time an image is implied to the avoid_posting tag.

Why it would be useful: It will be easier to find double posts and the DNP list while uploading. The button will help to avoid inadvertent uploading of DNP.

Just wanted to point out that it looks like they just implemented that suggestion. New feature that I just noticed on this page: https://e621.net/tag?order=count&page=9 there's a new column called "wiki article" and if it's red, then that means there isn't one and you can click to create one. And if it's a regular link then it has something in the wiki and you can easily click to view it. Just thought you might be excited to know it's there.

That would be awesome. Both for added communication between those that spot the bugs and those that fix them. And I imagine it might be easier to spot that ones that didn't get fixed right away to keep them from getting lost.

A version of this exists kind of. I know if there's an image being blacklisted on the current page of thumbs, then there will appear a link under the search bar and "mode" menu, that says "Blacklisted: [number of images being blacklisted]". If you click on it, it will show which blacklist tag(s) are on the page but being blocked, and you can click it to reveal those images. But you do have to do it every time you refresh the page, every new page, etc. And you have to keep an eye out to notice if it's there. So if you were looking for something temporary, then that's the only way I know how without actually changing your blacklist. If you were looking for something more long-lasting, then yeah, it doesn't exist yet. Might be handy though.

I haven't read the entire thread (bad headache today, screens are evil) so I apologize if this has already been requested.

Requested Feature: Option/feature/button/what have you to take all the tags on a post and put them in clipboard (or displays them in a selectable field) in a 'tag_1; tag_2; tag_3; tag_n+1;' format
Why it would be useful: This allows users (of Windows, at least) to easily tag what images they download with those tags they have on E621.

I've found that having one massive pile of images that are all tagged makes browsing them easier than if they were all sorted into folders, but manually tagging the 2,400 images I've saved will take me about two months (and that's with timesaver Bridge).

Alternatively and even better (but certainly more work and I have no idea how viable the idea is), add a button to each post that grabs the full image, converts it to .jpg (because .pngs cannot store metadata tags), appends to the file's metadata all the tags the image has on e621, then downloads it to the user's computer.

Requested feature: A Tor link/onion/whatever.

Requested feature:
Client-side comment previews

Why it would be useful:
When you enter a comment and click the "Preview" button, it sometimes takes almost half a minute for the preview to appear, or it doesn't appear at all. If the preview functionality could be moved to the client side, it would make e621 more responsive.

Paste the tags into notepad, click Edit >> Replace, tell it to replace " " (space character) with "; " (semicolon followed by blank space charcter). Click "Replace All" and you're good to go.

Feature request: Rule-based Tag Suggestions

More specifically, provide links that will add a given tag to the hidden 'edit' tag box, so that you just have to open it up and confirm the edit when you're done.

Some of the items in 'Tagging projects' thread strongly suggest this would be useful. For instance,

 • If a post is not tagged any of (solo duo group), it usually should have one of them (so, three suggested-tag links should be available).
 • If a post has (male female sex -gay) but doesn't have 'straight', it usually should have.
 • If a post has no sex tag (ie. none of {male female herm cuntboy dickgirl maleherm nullo ambiguous_gender neuter mtf ftm}), it probably should have at least one of them.
 • if a post has group tag, duo_focus or solo_focus may also be needed.

Personally I'm not imagining this as a directly database-backed thing, but a bit of javascript including an array (so that it can be cached by the browser, and only regenerated on E621 side when the rules are updated.). Ideally with tooltips that explain why a given tag is suggested.

Hopefully this could be available on the upload form as well, updating as the tag list is edited. This might help improve the standard of tagging so that more posts at least have sexes and solo/duo/group tagged from the start.

Updated by anonymous

Requested Feature: Group Tag suggestions for Tag Implication/Aliases

Reason: I don't know how to explain this but here's an example,

straight be implied with -> male, female, sex tag group

Is it possible? Or advanced feature that you can minus out tags like below.

rape be implied with -> sex, -solo, -dildo

Each time you add a new tag to your blacklist, the ones you had are scrambled when you save. I don't know why that happens but it doesn't break the blacklist function. Also, the blacklisted tags are stored on the server and then retrieved to your browser for the client-side blacklist

Feature request: Rule-based Tag Suggestions

On account settings page: if post matches rule in box 1, with same syntax as search/blacklist, then add tag suggestions from box 2, a space separated list of tags.

It would load only when the image page opens, so it shouldn't be server intensive.

The tag suggestions could be added with the "Uploaded tags" list. The tags that were matched by a rule could be bolded or a different color. If you had enough rules, you might even get rid of your "Uploaded tags" list (except for tags like '2014').

This is sort of already covered by our CoC currently under Abuse of Site Tools: https://e621.net/wiki/show?title=e621%3Arules

"In addition, if a person who is submitting content wishes it for it to be removed, for any reason, within 48 hours, that request will be honored."

I don't think we'll be giving users the ability to just delete posts themselves though. The administration needs to be aware of what's being deleted on the site and why, so they can make sure no one is abusing the system.

I think we need a better method of suggesting alias and implication removals.

There's dozens of tags that cannot be fixed until the old aliases/implications are cleared, but those tend to get lost on the forums. If we could suggest those the same way we suggest new aliases, then maybe they wouldn't get overlooked so easily?

Updated by anonymous

Would adding scaling to videos as well be too much bother?

I would love to upload much higher quality videos considering they wouldn't increase filesize or bitrate that much but uploading anything bigger than few hundred pixels wide video would make it appear too big for most users.

I'd like to see a Facebook-like feature where you can choose a piece of an image as your avatar instead of the whole pic. It'd be great to zoom in some highlights of said images and display them as your avy, which would also link to the full image... would it be too difficult?

Personally, I don't understand this one.

a) for new users, the login/signup option appears when they may actually have developed an interest in doing so -- that is, as they are browsing through posts. This is exactly the right time to show it.

b) for old users, why would they not simply bookmark https://e621.net/user/login rather than https://e621.net/ ?
If you have to login much, typing 'e6' into your url bar should already show /user/login as one of the first results.
(personally I do not bother with this because I basically never have to re-login, and never browse from different computers.)

USEFULL BECAUSE: This way you don't 'accidentally' see posts you don't want to see.

Sorry if this is already a thing or if it's been suggested before, I looked and couldn't find anything about it.

Requested feature: Being able to view a history of posts that you've favorited/unfavorited.

I'd like this for all images. Sometimes you get linked things on your blacklist.

Requested feature: Temporary alias. All tag edits that attempt to add (tag) trigger the alias. Tag edits on images that already have (tag) do not alias (tag). The system does not try to replace instances of (tag) with the alias.

Requested feature: Blacklisting of users by User ID

Why it would be useful: Because users can change names. While the user blacklisting does work well, it kinda fails when they have a different name, so catching them up by their ID instead of their name would make it even easier to not see certain users (it would also save up lines/characters on the blacklist!)

I was thinking on something like "userid:12345" for their ID while still keeping the "user:username" for names

I admit, I haven't used too many of the different apps that people have come up but I swear at least one or two of them might have had this as a feature. So even if e621 doesn't implement it right away, using one of the apps here might let you do the same thing without having to wait. It'd be worth the browse-through just to check anyways: https://e621.net/forum?category=9 (the forum category for apps that people have built for e621, often to add features they wanted to see or use)

Feature request: Provide helper buttons/'links' for quickly (one-click) tagging very common things on upload form.
Why it would be good:Encourage and make it easy for people to do the basic tagging correctly

Examples of tag sets that are dead common to require one or more on any given image;

 • solo, duo, group
 • male, female, herm, ambiguous_gender (others exist but these are the common ones)
 • anthro, feral, human (+anthroized?)
 • gay, straight, lesbian
 • penis, pussy

To elaborate on my idea, I'm basically thinking of it as working just the same as the recent tags list, only operating with a different list.

^ Ooh, that's an excellent idea. Some kind of tagging wizard would definitely encourage new users to tag more.

Anyway, before I forget again..

Feature request: Allow more specific searches for the forum.
Why it'd be good: Because it's hard to find old discussions if you're looking for something common. The current search system only seems to take the first few letters into account. For instance, searching for "holding" finds tons of threads where the word isn't even used.

This would be nice. I mean, we can change our vote on an image, so why not on comments too? Sometimes there's misclicks, sometimes you read the rest of the thread and realise the comment you voted up belongs to an asshole, sometimes after a few years you don't feel the same way about that comment when you stumble back across it, etc. So sometimes it would just be nice to be able to change your vote on a comment for a whole array of reasons. And I don't see any harm in it, just if it's possible is all. It would be nice.

It's because unlike post votes, comment votes are not stored individually. It only keeps track of the total score of the comment, and which users have voted on which comments (but not HOW they voted). So allowing undoing of votes means either resetting all comment scores to 0, or keeping them and allowing all users to vote on all comments again, which is probably the one we'll go with when we decide to change the system.

So, there's "Search for myself in comments" and "Comments on my posts", but what about "List of latest posts commented on that I have also commented on"? Would have a snappier name, but you get my point. Probably listed amongst the other options in the "e621.net/user/home" -page. Would be very similar to the other members of the "comment feed" family of functions.

Why it would be useful:
To keep an eye on images that you have seen in the past and commented on that you would be interested to see other people's opinions on as well as the post continues existing. The current own comments listing feature cannot (Or can it? If it can sorry for this useless post and do inform me) sort by date of the last commented on.
Personally, I would love this feature, and I'm sure others would too. Downside: Some comment threads turn to discussion (even though they never should) and this may encourage that happening, making it more frequent.

Like this, but everything you haven't commented on gets filtered out?

Yes, that's the idea. I still haven't found a way to do that. Sorry if I explained it haphazardly, I was a bit tired.

I actually added this at one point, but I implemented it wrong and it was cripplingly slow so I had to disable it until I can rewrite it.

Requested feature: When browsing comments, give the ability to filter comments by their post ratings -OR- Give the option to only see comments on rating:s posts.

Why it would be useful: While using e926 it's annoying to see pages of comments on images you can't see. It's hard to comment on an image when you can't look at it. This could only be an option when on e9, but I'm not even sure if that's an option.

Requested feature: Note preview function

Why it would be useful: this]

That might help some of the clutter in the note history.

It would also be useful if it were possible to adjust the placement of a note without the Note History treating it like a complete edit of the note. It makes note histories a little confusing to read through right now because maybe person A made a set of a translation notes, and then person B resizes a few of the boxes so that they fit better visually on the image/don't overlap/etc. The note history will just show a seemingly identical bunch of edits from both even though person B never changed anything with the note's text, just refined the notebox placement. I think note histories would be easier to read if it somehow distinguished "note edits when the text within the note was changed" vs "note edits when the text within the note was not changed" in some way. Somehow distinguish the two different types of note edits (both are important, but they are somewhat different types of work).

------------------------
[switching gears to talk about the regular description field on an image]
While on the subject of preview options, a description preview would also be very useful. I can't count how often I've guessed on formatting while quoting an artist's information about that image, and then had to re-edit after saving because the formatting didn't work quite as well visually as I'd hoped it was going to. Minor things that I would have been able catch with a quick preview of the description box, but without one I end up saving (and hoping) and then re-editing if need be. A preview option for the description box would simplify things considerably.

Requested feature: Ability to rate/tag pools

Why it would be useful: so when you search pools you can find the most popular ones or any ones that contain what you're looking for.

Requested feature: An option to make your profile unlisted, including favourites

Why it would be useful: post #224092

Updated by anonymous

Requested feature: The ability to favourite pools.

Why it would be useful: It would be cool to be able to favourite a whole comic or an artists folio rather than favourite every photo or just giving the first photo a favourite.

Requested feature: I think the example posts provided in the wiki pages should be changed from showing recent posts to showing a set group of posts chosen by the wiki author.

Why it would be useful: Wiki pages are for referencing how tags are used properly and if the recent posts have been mistagged it can be misleading and result in more mistags.

We can already do that with thumbnails (thumb #<postid>), though it's hard to find good examples and only a few wiki editors actually use those.

Maybe it should be used more. We have a lot of users who don't speak fluent English, so clarifying some tags with examples would probably reduce the number of mistags.

Maybe some artist who contribute here on E621 could create special artworks especially for the wiki since its so hard to find good examples. Anyway I know what I will be doing tomorrow on the wiki :D

You can search if a post hassource:false or true and if a post hasdescription:false or true. But there's no way to search if a post has notes or not. You can search the content of notes, and you can search if those notes are locked/unlocked. But you can't search to separate the images with notes from the ones without any notes. Could this search function be added? There's a few occasions where it would have been handy to have, and it seems like it might be possible.

It would be a really nice thing if the site recognized the HTML escape sequence ". This way, quotes could be added into link texts without breaking DText syntax.

-----------------------

I know this was requested countless times before, but here goes...
New "hotlink" DText elements that link to user profiles: user #ID and user @ID
Both of them should link to the user profile with the specified ID. The difference is, while user #ID would be displayed "as is", user @ID would show the actual username instead (if the ID is valid, of course).

Example:
user #97563 → user #97563
user @97563 → EsalRider

Requested feature: The ability to sort the forums, or at least have it sorted by recent.

Why it would be useful: It gets a bit annoying when I open the forums and I'm greeted by 2 year old posts.
