Sonic Mania Intro on SEGA Genesis with music by Alianger - Update 3

edit: are you KIDDING me?!

nier: automata has a Fing suicide ending! and it doesn't ask you to save before doing it.

Jackass indeed you dumbass android! Fer gives you a fish to eat and see how it affects an android and the damn thing up and kills you on the spot. queue the credits! this android is done!

dammit...now i have to go and redo the upgrades i did before...maybe. i'm not 100% sure but my body MIGHT still be there. regardless, now i want to kick that girls ass for doing that. >.<

no, my body isn't still there to be recovered! it was a Fing game over kill! wth, devs?

edit2: and in other news... we have sonic fans arguing over whether or not sonic mania is actually sonic 4, 5, or 6, and whether or not sonic 3 & knuckles is 1 full game or 2 separate games. >.> of all the dumb things to argue about.

that was on youtube.

edit3: it seems this games Soulsborne feature comes with an upgrade. when you find your dead body you are given a choice: retrieve or repair. since this was my first time, i chose to repair the dead body...

to my surprise, my corpse is now fighting alongside me as an ally! O_O freaky yet i won't turn down the free assistance.

oh...and the machines found god... so now i have suicide bombers coming after me. probably should've seen that coming when the last boss spoke of them researching humans (including the human creations known as religion). >.>

edit4: well, that's 2 ending... woah...this game has a total of 24 endings? (A to Z) wow... gonna be at this one for a while.

Are the point values of Xbox achievements regulated in any way to prevent game developers from creating extremely easy achievements with extremely high point values for the sole purpose of quickly increasing your gamer score? From what I can see, Google Play doesn't.

the only thing I know Microsoft enforces is that every game has to have at least 12 achievements, and they really don't care how easy the achievements are to get if games like Lollipop Chainsaw's "look up her skirt" or one of the Avatar Last Airbender games, I think it was The Burning Earth, is anything to go by...

This has become new trend for some reason and it feels like Xbox being the only one not in it. There's dedicated easy platinum games sold on US PSN (EU doesn't have those, but it's easy to just create US account and play with EU account after download) and on steam it's becoming norm that there's games with thousands of achievements unlocking in seconds.

i've heard of some before where merely booting up the game or passing the start menu gave achievements. of course we still don't see many like those Jim Sterling covers where merely moving the character starts spewing out thousands of achievements on console...well, they're still rare if they are there.

oh, and i found a solution to the MAMEUI64 problem:

"3. Splitters turn the screen into mush on a new install - this is confirmed but not fixed yet. But there is a workaround. Start MESSUI/MAMEUI. Drag out the bottom right corner to expand it to the desired size (even though it looks like crap). Close it. Open it. Now you can adjust the splitters and it will look ok. Close it again to save the settings. Next time you open it, everything will be fine. "

Unless having a high score or trophy count does something practical, it's most likely a status grab. People wanting to make themselves look better than they actually are by jacking up their scores and trophy counts, and these "games" let them do that. It's kinda like how people who take photos of themselves wearing other people's jewelry or even plastic jewelry to make themselves look rich, or people who only apply for prestigious jobs just so they can tell people they have that job. Pretty sad, really, and it makes things worse for people who actually earn their status fair and square.

white belt, brown belt, black belt, red and white belt...this is getting a little ridiculous... now red belt and instead of getting bigger he got smaller and is actually acting like an actual martial artist. well, with basic punches and bowing. father servo is lvl 60 now and tbh, i'm beginning to wonder if he gets even mightier. like say...true martial artist lvl of combat skills.

guess i'll find out after this. i am currently lvl 36, fighting a lvl 60 father servo...i had to swap out some chips and equip a melee attack increase chip to go from under 10 per hit to 70+ to him. he got super tanky! and now, even hacking him does barely any damage so i've no choice but to go melee.

this kind of thing could make for an interesting training program with motion controls. well, assuming they can ever make motion controls keep up with a decent movement speed. >.> with the current tech i'd have to force myself to move slower than usual in some cases cause i move too fast for the stuff to keep up.

still, having an ever improving/evolving enemy to fight like this would make for good training.

edit: wow... and so father servo falls at last. this last round had 2 parts and he got even harder in the 2nd part when he made it a fight to the death.

that was one tough quest chain.

I know a Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise allows you to get an achievement as soon as you reach the title screen by entering in the Konami Code.

I seriously hope the Pocket Edition of FFXV isn't the Switch version, because if it is, I will definitely not be buying FFXV, I cannot describe how much hate I have for that artstyle except for the Wall of Hate from I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream the Game...

BioMutant's gameplay style reminds me kind of Dragon's Dogma but with just a single character from what the trailers look like. I hope that the game is similar in that gameplay, Dragon's Dogma is my favorite PS3 game, and I have the game installed on PC as well, as well as even ported my save from my PS3 to my PC.

well, lvl 50 and now i can use this bunny to grind to 99... *several minutes of attacking later* why. won't. you. WAKE UP AND FIGHT ME?! MOOOOVVVVE! fight me, you damned golden bunny! *keeps attacking*

edit: several more minutes of pounding and it STILL isn't aggroed. fuck this thing has high HP! lvl 80 but geez, tanky as all F and you have to be lvl 50 just to start hurting it. which i am doing cause it flashes like it's electrified when i hit it plus my offensive healing chip is healing me when i hit it so i KNOW i'm hurting it. question is...how much freaking hp do i have to take off to aggro this thing?

and the replacement copy of Nier: Automata works!

pretty good game from what i've seen so far. they combined the shooter and flying aspects with the typical melee combat quite nicely. oh and talking to this one NPC, i just learned this game has a touch of Soulsborne in it. if you die, you have to recover your previous body to get all your items back. die twice and well...we all know how that goes. :/

that's a pretty nice feature From introduced to rpg gaming.

My favorite part of that game is the machines I thought they were adorable, especially the indoor machine he's my favorite of all.

So you're trying to fight a L80 enemy with a L50 character... Ever consider that fighting an enemy 30 levels above you might be a bad idea? If you're not even strong enough to wake it up, what makes you think you can survive its attacks after it wakes up?

Nier Automata is made by Platinum, he could easily dodge the attacks pretty easily unless this enemy has a lot of super fast attacks.

auto-chips my friend. this game let's you use auto chips (auto- attack/evade/shoot/program/etc.) when the difficulty is set to easy and with that offensive heal chip equipped all my attacks heal me. so if i can survive 1 hit from any of that bunny's attacks, i can survive the lengthy fight with it.

the 2 optional bosses on the other hand are lvl 99 and will be far more powerful than this bunny.

ugh...i also found out how this game is tied to the drakengard games (in particular the 1st games secret final boss that sends you to another world: earth) but...going beyond that is major plot related spoilers. suffice it to say however, Nier isn't a post-apocalypse game...it's an even worse situation built around a great deception and a war that likely has gone on for so long that it's likely neither side really knows why they're fighting anymore. well, they probably won't once that deception has been brought to an end.

Updated by anonymous

guess what finally decided to wake up!

lvl 55, playing as A2 currently and it seems she can taunt enemies which lets her do far more damage (think she also takes more as well) so several taunts later and a LOT of damage (enough for offensive healing to heal for 140+/hit) and that golden bunny machine finally started moving. i think it takes 5 or 10% of its hp to aggro it and it has a LOT of hp apparently.

here's hoping the exp payout is worth the trouble.

huh, so i beat nier: automata (well, ending c which is 1 of 2 choices you get at the end of the main storyline. if i go through again and get ending d i can then do the extra bullet hell ending 'e'.) and did you guys know that you can use the in-game currency to pay to unlock the games trophies? no, no, seriously. once you finish the main story and unlock chapter select and debug mode (kinda bare bones tbh. not much to it.), the girl in the alliance (i forgot the actual name) camp gets a new topic to talk about and this is the trophy shop.

so if i want to, i can just pay her and unlock say... the Circle of Death trophy.

it's better than irl $ micro-transactions but that really makes me wonder why square enix even added those trophies if you can just pay to unlock them. it makes them seem pretty pointless.

random player: oh, look at me. i went and unlocked all these tough trophies in nier: automata.

me: ok but did you actually play and earn them or did you throw money at an NPC and buy them?

random player: er...well... :/

me: just go away and let us real gamers actually EARN these things.

buying them takes away any and all sense of accomplishment, you know?

I think that Sony and Microsoft require trophies to be in their games, and Yoko Taro and/or the team at Platinum Games probably didn't really want trophies in their games... That's what I think, anyways...

In my opinion, every game that involves any form of progress or record setting on every platform with an achievement system should have trophies/achievements for them both saved to a XBL/PSN/whatever account and to the game itself just in case the player doesn't have one of those accounts. I also reckon they should be regulated to some degree, otherwise it's too easy for unscrupulous developers to exploit it and devalue the whole system.

According to Gamefaqs, there is a trophy that can be rendered unobtainable. Maybe the Trophy Shop is for unobtainable trophies. Besides that, trophies shouldn't be purchased unless the trophy is a reward for purchasing other things (eg. Buy 10000 items from a shop).

treos said:

Exactly. That's why it should be regulated and things like Ultimate XP Boost shouldn't be allowed.

well, i guess that is a possibility.

hmmm... good, now this MGSV game is working fine. ain't no reason for a spotless clean disc to not work like that.

edit: well, not a bad intro section. had to avoid a few soldiers and this weird telekinetic/pyrokinetic guy. awesome graphics...

and anatomically correct horses... so these mythical creatures really DO exist in video games! lol that was a surprising minor detail i didn't expect to see (Ocelot's horse at the beginning is male.).

Jeez, and Sonic is made to be fast paced. A kaizo edition would likely require top speed knowing the entire level's layout.

As far as I'm concerned, if you can't realistically complete a level without prior knowledge of the level's contents, that level is badly designed. Being hard is one thing, but Kaizo's levels pretty much can't be beaten without memorizing the entire level's layout, planning every single movement and executing them flawlessly.

which is exactly why i dislike kaizo and similar romhacks so much.

edit: in MGSV:PP... *spots a gunship in the mission area* a gunship? oh no, ain't no way i'm fighting a gunship. *calls in air support* you guys can fight it. me, i'm stying down here in the grass.

*a few minutes later* :/ that's a lot of smoke coming out of their chopper... oh and they cleared that guard post too. ty, air support guys. :)

bit expensive but that helped a LOT probably as a gunship would've shredded me. probably shouldn't call for air support in the eventual metal gear fight(s?) though. anyone who has played a MG game knows how powerful a metal gear is. a helicopter might help but not too much.

the base building and management in this game is a bit annoying but i guess it works well enough. this game is clearly more of an action game than the stealth oriented metal gear games of the past though. plus it's nice to be able to call in resupply drops for ammo and stuff too.

well, that's all for Nier: Automata. saw all the main story endings and some of the optional joke endings (such as removing your own OS chip. guess i was wrong. there was multiple suicide endings in this game.) but the requirements for ending Y are just stupid and reach back to pre-ps3 generation games.

to get ending Y you must unlock the quest Emil's Determination which requires all weapons to be collected and lvled to lvl 4 (max) which requires the use of this games fishing system to obtain some of them AND said fishing system relies on RNG/luck for what you get each attempt. SO...yeah, F that BS. that's the kind of BS i'd expect of ps2 and older games that use fishing systems. like, seriously, why do game devs still do that?

i'll just see that bit of content via youtube let's play. (assuming youtube doesn't blind me with its overly bright red now.)

anywho...back to MGSV:PP.

MegaMan X: Corrupted - Neurohack Mosquito - S Class

still in the works but like i've said to those who just want JKB Games to release it already: it may still be unfinished but it's still more than capcom has done in years with the IP.

i've been patient with MMX: corrupted for years now. what's a bit more time?

after all, more time for him likely means a better finished product if all those videos are anything to go by. :)

and it looks like i may be going up against a sniper in MGSV:PP soon. a sniper by the name of Quiet.

i wonder how hard that kind of fight will be in an open world setting like this. i know sniper fights were pretty tough (but fun) in past MGS games.

edit: damn... encountered Quiet and that is one extremely skilled sniper. i can barely even move around and 1 shot sends me to critical health. yep, this is going to be quite hard if i can't get close to this guy.

maybe if i had any homing...no. i'd get hit before i could lock-on. shit...

edit2: well, that wasn't too hard. still fun though and score one female sniper with the Vanguard Sniper skill.

seems she isn't entirely quiet as she likes to hum. not entirely invisible either, not when sprinting and jumping anyway. a few hits from my own sniper rifle and she went down fast. just had to get her to fire then hit her while she was reloading.

aside from that it was your typical sniper showdown. keep an eye out for the light glinting off the enemies rifle barrel > mark 'em with your scope > hit 'em while they reload. then both parties move and repeat. just gotta be patient is all. :)

i'm sure the harder "extreme" version of that fight will be different when i unlock it. mainly with quiet doing far more damage.

Sonic Mania Comes To PC With Spicy Denuvo DRM

eh...it'll get cracked. after all, there's no such thing as unhackable software and DRM NEVER works. well, not for long.

edit: research research research... geez, how much weaponry and equipment did they put in this game? i sold off all my vehicles, mounted guns, precious metals, and even a bunch of plants and i'm STILL nowhere near done with what i have unlocked right now!

and this is just up to the 3rd star rank. after i finished downloading and installed the update last night (still need to download something else for the online content which is free and requires no PS+ unless you want to do PVP) i found that research actually goes up to FIFTEEN ranks! that'll take enormous amounts of funding and time to finish. and i dunno if i want to buy this game yet...maybe re-rent it from time to time.

but geez...i likely already have over 40-50 pieces of equipment unlocked and researched. then there's building up mother base and other stuff... konami and kojima made a good time sink with this game. money pit too if you're one of those who throw money at micro-transaction currencies.

still a decent game though and i just met this games metal gear, Shahalanthropus. scary thing...ain't like Rex or past models. no, this one walks upright on 2 legs and can really move around even on that rocky terrain. gonna be a helluva fight at the end of the game.

saw some people linking to this page about denuvo on the steam discussions section for sonic mania.

pretty good list of reasons why you shouldn't buy games that use denuvo. regardless, either sega will remove it due to the backlash or cracking groups will break through the denuvo wall soon enough. either way, DRM always fails in some way.

i don't see why companies still use DRM. it never works, is usually cracked within a week (yes, denuvo did put up a good fight for the first year or so but now...meh) if not less, and only ever hurts consumers while acting as a delay for piracy. DRM's not even a deterrent at this point, just a bump in the road. well...it might be a deterrent if you don't want people to buy your game.

edit: oh and i almost forgot but i checked the other night and MGSV:PP players can be happy to know that the PS4's media player app does work with the game. something i had suspected since the game uses an in-game media player type of setup (why are you using cassette tapes, snake??? that shit is ancient! lol) for music while only having ambient environment audio other than that.

the environmental audio is nice but it's also nice to know you can start up some music (and find some other tracks scattered across the maps. "we're the kids of america" or whatever that song is called... seriously, wth, snake? lol man, you sure find some strange stuff on the battlefield.) anywhere you want.

lol too bad there doesn't seem to be much weird stuff like in the older games. i bet that dream sequence snake went through on the psone game had him going "o_O wtf..." when he woke up.

they DID, however, keep the classic game over thing: "snake? ... SNAKE?! ... SNAAAKE!" with what sounds like a grunt or sigh at the end. maybe his friends have grown tired of doing that.

I think canonically, MGSV:PP takes place some time in the 1980's, which would explain cassette players instead of CD players or MP3 Players.

that and i suspect this is before the Metal Gear Solid game for psone since i've heard mention of a "weapon to surpass metal gear" which could be genetically modified soldiers. quiet is also a good indication of that too with all of her abilities.

she seems to only need water and sunlight to feed/drink and does so through her skin like a plant would with photosynthesis (apparently she even breathes through her skin) as well as being able to aim with 1 eye on the scope while using her other eye to look around for other targets when sniping (like what some types of reptiles can do). this sounds like that ancient sniper you fight in one of the other games and he was around 200+ years old with leaves growing across his body at the time iirc.

freaky plant snipers... still don't know how she turns invisible when dashing though. maybe that has to do with the area around her eyes turning dark? it's clearly some form of optical camo.

and i now know what happens when you have flies swarming around your head. this happens: MGSV: The Phantom Pain - Snake Stinks when you return to mother base.

i don't see why companies still use DRM. it never works, is usually cracked within a week (yes, denuvo did put up a good fight for the first year or so but now...meh) if not less, and only ever hurts consumers while acting as a delay for piracy.

There's the answer right there: Piracy. If people weren't always trying to get illegal copies of it, there would be no need for developers to add anti-piracy features. As long as piracy is still a thing, they will keep trying to create more advance forms of DRM to combat it.

i still sometimes see people on the idle/incremental subreddit ask the question: how do i keep people from cheating in my game?

the simple answer: you don't and you never will be able to.

swap "cheating" with "pirating" and you get the exact same answer.

they can keep improving DRM all they want but the only thing that will do is piss off the consumers and only delay piracy. it'll never stop it.

it doesn't matter if the DRM is denuvo, steam (yes, steam is a form of DRM), or anything else. they can throw everything and the kitchen sink at pirates (which the denuvo devs tried with that Rime game and in doing so pretty much rendered the game unplayable because the denuvo software was running out of control) and it will NEVER work. there is no if's, and's, or but's when it comes to the simple fact that there is literally no such thing as unhackable software.

the only thing those who use DRM are doing by relying on it is hurting their customers. heck, rime was cracked within the week despite denuvo going out of control on it. of course, part of that was probably due to the games devs issuing a challenge to cracking groups.

i wonder what the actual REAL numbers are like when it comes to piracy affecting the sales of various media. everyone likes to go on and on about how it hurts all these big companies/developers/etc. and make them out to be victims of some horrible crime but you hardly ever hear about the actual effects it has on sales. they likely take a good sized hit when it comes to PC users when they start putting DRM on their stuff.

here's a video comparing Rime with vs without denuvo

So the developers who wish to make money on a product they spent millions of dollars making should choose between having their products stolen by people too cheap to pay for it or not creating the product at all? Because the latter is the only guaranteed way to stop people from stealing it.

Remember when you said this?

From comment #241186:

random player: oh, look at me. i went and unlocked all these tough trophies in nier: automata.

me: ok but did you actually play and earn them or did you throw money at an NPC and buy them?

random player: er...well... :/

me: just go away and let us real gamers actually EARN these things.

buying them takes away any and all sense of accomplishment, you know?

Replace buying with cheating. Those games you're so willing to cheat on better not have achievements/trophies otherwise you'd be a hypocrite for obtaining them illegitimately while slagging off others for doing the same.

Then what do you suggest developers do to stop people from stealing their products? Simply letting it happen is not a viable option.

Since it's almost impossible to get accurate numbers on piracy, we'll never know how much revenue is lost because of it. The best I can think of would be to compare the number of legit copies sold with the number of registered users. If the latter is noticeably higher than the former, piracy is afoot.

Want it to stop? Then encourage people to stop pirating and start buying. While not all piracy can be stopped, there are ways of tracking it. Psychonauts and Spore both had their ways of keeping an eye on it. The higher the numbers of pirates, the more the companies will want to create better and stronger anti piracy methods. Methods, which then go on to upset everybody else.

no, the latter of those 2 is THE only way to stop it. it doesn't matter what you say, the fact remains that DRM only hurts the consumers and only slows down piracy. no amount of DRM will ever stop it.

and "too cheap to pay for it"? i guess you forgot that not everyone is rich and that things like video games are a luxury.

comparing micro-transactions to cheating are we? newsflash, those are effectively the same thing only one involves irl money and the other doesn't.

Then what do you suggest developers do to stop people from stealing their products? Simply letting it happen is not a viable option.

there is literally nothing short of not making the products in question that will stop piracy.

in the end, it doesn't matter how much you try and defend it. the fact remains that DRM is a hindrance to consumers and does absolutely nothing to stop piracy. it is a complete waste of money and resources.

There's a reason why I said "too cheap" and not "too poor". I'm too poor to afford console games anymore but you don't see me pirating games to get around that, I look for more affordable alternatives instead. The pirates usually can afford the games they pirate.

The method is different but the result is the same. Neither of them make you look good.

Security measures in general do this. Ever tried walking into a servo with a full-face helmet on?

You didn't answer the question, by the way. If DRM is so bad for consumers then what anti-piracy measures should the developers use instead? Or do you believe they should put no measures in whatsoever and let people steal their products? Or should they just stop making games altogether?

i don't know how i can say it more plainly: when it comes to software, there isn't a countermeasure in the world that will stop piracy. the only way to prevent it is to simply not make that which is being pirated.

it's not that i believe they should stop making games altogether, it's the fact that they can throw all the money and resources in the world at the problem and they'll still fail to stop it entirely. game companies would sooner go bankrupt wasting time and resources than come close to stopping piracy. the best they can do is to simply find ways of convicning people to buy their products instead of pirating them.

heck, i've come across a few game devs over the years who are fine with people pirating their game and actually accept it for the inevitability that it is. others might simply be happy knowing their game is popular enough to even be pirated.

granted those are usually indie devs, they at least understand that they can't stop it and simply focus on their games instead of a problem they know they can't stop. they might take a hit in profits due to it but they know they can't stop people from pirating the games they make.

edit: Bethesda Creation Club is now Subcontracted Microtransactions

here's a couple playlists for you guys to share if you ever meet someone who has never played any mario rom hacks before...

Asshole Mario 1

Asshole Mario 2

who might be wondering "huh? what's so bad about mario rom hacks?"

this will probably drive them away from the very idea of even considering to play mario rom hacks. asshole mario aka kaizo mario, 1 and 2.

i wonder... in what twisted, sadistic, universe might these be considered "fun"?

well...japan maybe.

sounds like a hand-to-hand run of Morrowind or Oblivion.

except in DOOM you can rip your enemies to pieces and in some cases use the removed body parts to bash them. like pulling off an imps arm then braining him with it.

Likely based on Brutal Doom, which let you do that to your enemies in a pixelated manner.

Rumor: Bethesda Takes ALL Revenue from Creation Club's Sold Mods

if this winds up being true... wow, bethesda, what a completely shitty greed fueled move.

There are different forms of copyright trades, you have to be careful and look at what agreement you get. While some larger mods could get away with a royalty system (see Falskaar), a lot of these things seem to be minor changes and additions that really shouldn't get anything more than that purchase of rights.

MGSV: The Phantom Triggered (A Metal Gear Parody)

gets pretty creepy around the 1:26 mark but still funny.

incomplete or not, i'd say it was a decently good game for what konami gave us. though...i think i'll just replay some of the older games in the franchise from now on.

also, Ocelot raises a very good point at the 1:16 mark... i mean, i got the game ready to send back to gamefly earlier and i think i had around 400+ (maybe 500-600+ counting those in the waiting room) dicks walking around with...actually, i think quiet might've been the only female soldier in this game. that's a bit much i think. especially for them to all be stuck out in the middle of an ocean on some big ass oil rig complex...thing.

oh well, it's a decent enough game even if it was released unfinished and it lets you have free access to the online content aside from the synchronous pvp stuff.

"Evolution of "The Johnny Joke in Metal Gear Solid

lol that next to last clip was awesome. poor guy...

News Wave! - Nintendo Switch SD Card Requirement Announced and Xbox One Getting Keyboard and Mouse!

that keyboard & mouse isn't that surprising since numerous consoles have gotten them over the years. that'll probably make it easier to play MMOs on the console.

heh, i wonder how many FPS players will start getting pwned by the keyboard & mouse users and start whining about it.
