it came out on ps4 back in january this year. it's not bad. unlike the rest of the franchise, this one was done by koei tecmo's Omega Force team so it's a dynasty warriors style game.

it's not bad but like the first toukiden and dragon quest heroes, it uses the old DW map style instead of the new open world approach they've started doing.

oh and watch out for Lu Bu in...i think it was the 2nd map? he only appears once this time though (well, i only played the 1st of the 4 storyline so he might appear in the others too) but man is he tanky.

if you try this game and find the first boss to be tanky. lu bu is easily 5x tankier and then some. that said, however, he is still nowhere near as deadly as he is in normal DW games so long as you don't try to tank him. hit and run combo attacks work good on him. he just takes a helluva beating to finally take him down.

Koei Tecmo really made a monster when they made Lu Bu.

"he's dead, Jim."

"The database timed out running your query. Try again later."

o_O that's a new one for me.

the moment I saw Koei Tecmo on the box art of the Vita version I was assuming that the gameplay was similar to Dynasty Warriors.

I just hope that Battlefront 2 much better than Battlefront 1, although I feel like this is an easy thing to accomplish. I should pick up the original Battlefront 2 to see how it is so I can easily compare how the two different versions of Battlefront 2.

going back even older, some video cards during the 90's had some pretty interesting features you don't see on video cards today, like some models of Geforce4 Ti 4200 having TV out and Video In (also known as S-Video). At least we still have access to a more updated version of DVI, as well as the same old VGA we have used for over 20 years, on top of DisplayPort if you like high resolutions (like 4K).

Or the low-poly graphics from the PS1/N64 era, where the main character looked just fine with <1000 polygons. According to this page, Banjo from Banjo-Kazooie only used 783 polygons.

ah ok
was there a rendering program
that can add in more polys into older models?
But they end up looking funny
because it automatically try to force any
square and triangle shapes to be rounder?

Yeah Low poly is now a art form and style
kinda like video tape static, grind and off video coloring.

that's nice. I'm wondering because some older games end up having weird display issues on newer operating systems and hardware, mainly the weird colors in games made in the early 90's.

Theres widescreen support
if not I'll bet the steam supporters/users
made a hack/mods that let the game supports it.

for crying out loud, how many cutscenes can this game (valkyria revolution) have?! i've done a total of TWO storyline missions thus far and have spent about 2-3 times as much time as i spent in those missions sitting around and skipping a mountain of cutscenes!

i start the game up and there's like 10-20 cutscenes before the first mission. another10-20+ between the 1st and 2nd mission and now ANOTHER 10-20+ after the 2nd mission. wth, SEGA?! is this a game or a visual novel?

and the other game i got, valkyria chronicles remastered isn't much better tbh though it does seem to have a larger number of battles (remastered being a more traditional strategy rpg and revolution being more of an ARPG).

this is ridiculous! if i wanted to spend hours upon hours sitting around listening to and watching people talk i could... actually, even an anime would have more action than this.

don't get me wrong, i like the combat in revolution and...kinda like it in remastered though that style of gameplay isn't really my thing but...that part of the game seems buried under tons of cutscenes is all.

i'm also curious as to the lvl cap in revolution since the hp can clearly go up to 5 digits.

the length, according to gamefaqs, is ~55.9 hours but...how much of that is cutscenes? same question for both games...

Making macros for WoW is interesting... it used to be so much easier.

So, for all you survival hunters in WoW, I made a macro that works around the problem of having to spam Hatchet Toss and Throwing Axes (if you talented into TA):

lengthy macro

/castsequence Throwing Axes, Hatchet Toss, Hatchet Toss, Hatchet Toss, Hatchet Toss, Hatchet Toss, Hatchet Toss, Hatchet Toss, Hatchet Toss, Hatchet Toss

The amount of Hatchet Tosses in the castsequence depends on your haste, mine meeks out at 9 before Throwing Axes recharges. You then use up one charge on Throwing Axes, then spam the macro to do the rest. This obviously helps if something is not melee friendly. And, this is actually is a workaround, you normally can't make rotations in macros because anything that procs a global cooldown prevents the next /cast, this is an over complication of 2 /cast *ability* . /castsequence isn't a true rotation, going down the list of spells to use (so you can't have 1 button win scenarios), it goes in the order it was written and memorizes when you last left off. In other words, you can't reset rotations without finishing the whole castsequence.

Anyone else got experiences of bending the game's rules to your will?

They specifically made abilities whose strong points were when other abilities proc'd debuffs to prevent macro's, y'know.

Are you referring to silences? I never experienced abilities that prevent a macro, because you can only feasibly use instants. Cast times break the macro.

think i tried the sega genesis Ray Knights game once but didn't stick with it for very long. i think i had to use a translation patch for it as it might've been a japanese exclusive title.

hmmm... i still can't help but feel as if i've at least heard about a 2nd and maybe even a 3rd SEGA Power Cuts album somewhere... well, last i looked, nothing turned up so maybe not. or maybe they do exist and are just extremely rare and hard to find.

regardless, there's some nice music in that album.

i think Dayglo Blues and Tabatha are from a sega saturn racing game (or was it dreamcast?).

Mechanical World, Act 1 and Bring it back are from...some game about a pencil or something? those tracks are kinda weird but not necessarily bad.

Nocturnal and Vectorman Theme are, well...Vectorman tracks.

i don't remember which games Evil Things, Burn, and King Ramses are from. well, no...King Ramses and Midknight's Theme might be from Eternal Champions but i can say for certain as i'm not big on the fighting game genre and never tried any version of that game.

i have no idea what game(s) Invasion of the Empire Army and Sadness of Ghost Weapon are from though the latter is japanese so probably from a japan exclusive title or something.

St. Gabriel's Mask _ Vocal Remix is from one of the Ecco games (the final bosses of this franchise are nightmare fuel) and Sonic Boom is just the intro theme for Sonic CD (no special version unlike the rest of the album). and i don't remember which game Bug Bop! is from.

it's a good album overall and irc VERY difficult to find an original physical copy of since sega only released it with certain games and not for all that long. you're better off downloading this album if you want it.

edit: here's another album you're not likely to find. Comix Zone - Roadkill [CD Bonus]

i think it was a limited release sold with the game in some places. ok, looks like i got that last bit of info wrong.

wiki link

uh...no...? it was the (far better) european album i was thinking of. which is the version that playlist i link covers.

edit2: oh man...i have hit video game music gold with this album. lol

SEGA Mega Drive Super Medley

5:18 of the remix medley: they even found a place for that crappy music from phantasy star III! and it actually fits rather nicely. dang, sega, now that is impressive.

i wonder if this "bonus level" in the genesis game, Bio-Hazard Battle even exists. the cheats section for the game on gamefaqs says:

"Locate the caves immediately following the opponents that resmble a pair of lips. Move to the top left corner to lose the current ship and restart in a level consisting of a large asteroid field."

i think i've checked for that whenever i played the game (which is a great side scrolling shooter btw) and never found this bonus level.

if any of you guys have never played it before, you should check it out. one of the levels has you taking apart a massive jet infested with uh...whatever those...creatures are. it's pretty tough and has a good number of sections to blow off before you finish it.

edit: https://www.patreon.com/rufflenecks

found another good looking furry NSFW game. looks like it's still in the alpha stages of development but it's already got a pretty large download size of 800MB+ for the windows version.

not sure if i'll bother with this one though due to that big download size. :/

News Wave! - Capcom Brings Resident Evil Back To Nintendo

meh, if the new game is about the same as or worse than RE7 then who cares?

possessed and/or psycho girl with a fucked up family of monsters and an evil monster child with a final boss that crawled out of Evil Dead 2 just as the time vortex scene began. yeah, so scary. >.> i forget, was there even any actual zombies in that game or were all the monsters just a side product of umbrella's B.O.W. in child form?

overall, the scariest thing i saw in that game was the crappy jump scares. and once you know those are going to happen, they lose their "fear" factor quite quickly.

Valkyria Revolution:

let's see... i'm up to chapter 5 now which, including the prologue chapter, is...

story battles: 12

cutscenes of various lengths: 86

and counting...

pretty much all the talking between battles is done in the cutscenes with a very VERY small number of NPCs here and there in town and other places you can visit outside of battle.

this is why i said the valkyria games gameplay is buried under a mountain of cutscenes. still, it's not necessarily a "bad" game.

and chronicles is in about the same situation i think. except that one has a competely different combat system so instead of being an Action RPG, chronicles is a SRPG (Strategy RPG). not too unlike a shining force game. well, the older ones.

I decided to look it up after watching MrKravin's video on it, just to see how bad it was. I'm sure Jim will cover it soon. It's supposed to be an episodic game, but considering how bad the first chapter is tanking, I don't think anyone will buy the subsequent chapters.

the composer, tee lopes, even left a comment there too.

it's great to see people who actually get that it's not merely fancy graphics or soundtrack alone that make a great game but rather it's both of those things, great gameplay, and hopefully a good plot too that make a great game. it's a nice sight compared to many games nowadays.

That and the dev is giving it away and seems to be taking negative criticism well, understanding the difference between negative and destructive. He may be terrible at his job, but he doesn't fit the criteria for SidAlpha.

Same here. Definitely one of my favorites from 2015. Great atmosphere, quirky characters, plenty of secrets. Shame about the 'ending'. Most Let's Players seem to rush through it, which misses most of the game.

Can't think of anything remotely similar outside of interactive fiction. ...except maybe Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy, and Deadly Premonition.
