Doom Guy's Mind

edit: Hexen is...interesting. unlike doom it seems to be just a few maps, the different sections of which are connected via portals. and these are some HUGE maps.

the first one is simple enough but then you get to the "Seven Portals" map which is maze-like and you have to go all over the place flipping a whole bunch of switches in a certain order to solve the "puzzle" and proceed to the next map...where you do the same thing.

i'm actually surprised it doesn't lag given the size of the maps. think i'll try out Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel next.

these are some surprisingly good games for being so ancient.

that's...mildly interesting. i can do that when i plug my ps4 controller into my laptop. well, i can change the color of the light on it (why is the default that bright blue anyway? makes it hard to look at.).

I think the blue light was a design choice for Sony, a lot of the PS4's more confusing problems to me is just one of their design flaws, like the italic design of the PS4 or the general design of any of the PS3 models, especially the super slim PS3...

ps4 system update 4.73... where can i find the changelog online?

looking around, i keep seeing "This system software update improves the quality of the system performance." but that doesn't tell me anything and the download is 340.6 MB which leads me to suspect that that is hardly the only change being made.

there's this on reddit but that just says the above quote and nothing else. then there's this article talking about piracy and sony banning accounts used to share games (cause sharing video games is such a horrible crime >.>).

but i don't see an actual changelog anywhere so i might have to wait till it's done downloading tonight or tomorrow night to find out what all has been changed beyond "improved system performance".

It's closed system maintained by single company. You either bend over or don't do anything with their system. 3DS also had tons of the stability updates.

As for sharing games, pretty sure you agree on their terms on only using your account yourself, so sharing games isn't crime but multiple users sharing same account violates their terms. Pretty sure you can always use your own account on your friends console, but only single console can be activated as main system.

Also was about to comment how downloading 340 MB only takes under minute over 4G network, but then realized that this is still PSN we are talking about and not all countries have unlimited fast data cheap.

Lightbar on Dualshock 4 is off on PC unless game supports it or you use some third party wrapper, e.g. steam to handle controller inputs. Dying light it's safe house/health indicator, Arkham Knight it's intense red and Dust has it connected to Ahrahs voice. Then games like Yooka-Laylee have given it zero though and just keeps it static cyan color.

Blue, red, green and pink are the player 1-4 indicator colors (main reason why V2 controller has it showing on the touchpad as well), but those are also playstation camera compatible, which is why they need to be bright and easily distinguishable by camera. Of course you can turn the light down if you don't have camera and games are free to change the colors how they want, like with puyo puyo tetris it's cyan, pink, green and yellow.

So I guess on PC, if you are using wrapper software they just default to same player 1 blue from PS4 as that's default over there.

random thought just now: how did they manage to get the sex in yooka laylee past the censors?

what i mean is this. when your in the first world/book, you eventually get to transform into a flower and "pollinate" a bunch of talking flowers... this is made even more obvious when you try to spray that stuff on the first flower who asks you to go around pollinating her friends nearby and what she then says.

i never thought about it much till now but how did that get past the censors?

the pokemon site and some footage we have seems to imply that this Lycanroc is exclusively an event pokemon, but I hope that we have a way to get the evolution to happen, as in regular Pokemon Sun and Moon, Lycanroc only evolves depending on what version you evolve Rockruff in. I hope that you have a choice on evolving Rockruff with dawn and dusk stones in USUM...

wow, i was just checking and it's been 7 years since we last got a mega man game from one of the main series (mega man 10).

aside from that there was that Xover mobile game and the mega man x street fighter game for pc. the only thing capcom has put out since those are the 2 legacy collections.

are they still working on that new anime or was that cancelled?

and some people wonder why there's more capcom haters than fans nowadays... i think we all know why that is.

wow, horizon: zero dawn is big. 16+ minutes to install (which it's doing now).

no chakan though but i kinda expected that would take a while with how long it took for the order to go through.

i think FFXV was bigger though. well, file size anyway as that took around 30 minutes to install and they even included that combat practice thing with it.

edit: well, this is a pretty good game so far. those machines you hunt and fight are pretty tough too. and yeah, i think it does play similar to breath of the wild, quite similar.

and the intro...that was like watching a movie with how it played straight into the main menu. very nicely done. great graphics too.

great graphics and great frame rate too. i don't think i've seen any drops in frame rate yet, even in combat with multiple machines.

they went so far as to make the terrain destructible when fighting larger ones. yeah, the first sawtooth you fight can bust through small boulders and trees and i bet there's far worse out there on this island too.

edit2: well, that was a decent challenge. one corruptor down and... O_O woah, this override thing can let me control and turn certain machines to my side, hello, new horse (Strider)! ^_^

these item/equipment/inventory/ammo...capacity upgrades are annoying. you have to go around hunting randomly spawning wildlife such as boars, turkeys, foxes, rabbits, and i guess fish though i've yet to see fish anywhere (time to start checking streams and rivers i guess) for materials to craft the upgrades.

if i can get a few rare drops such as fox skins i can go trade them for a golden travel pack which allows infinite fast traveling. you need travel packs to fast travel in this game.

those minor annoyances aside and a certain giant thunder bird (you will die, bird!)... still a good game overall.

1 more boar bone and some more wood and i can make the 3rd resource capacity upgrade. once that's done i can carry up to 70 stacks of resource items. i seriously need to upgrade that potion capacity though as herbs alone will only get you just so far in a big fight (stupid thunder bird! >:( killed me twice!).

edit: and it looks like my next game to come in is going to be The Purge.

That's one thing that's bugged me about games like this. How exactly does a monster rarely possess one of its own body parts? Unless you've incinerated them or someone's going around tearing their bits off without killing them, you should be able to get skins, bones, etc. from them every time.

Sonic Mania - Opening Animation

just 5 more days to go! ^_^

and i also spotted this...

Sonic XL: The Quest for Super Sonic Fatass

edit: whoo boy... this central part of the island has some big machines. that thunderbird (finally managed to kill 1 of them) was pretty large but i just found something even mightier. a thunderjaw... not sure what animal this thing was modeled after but it's huge and has a ton of different components (and a ton of armor plating) you can strip off to weaken it.

that said...if that bird was that hard to kill, this thing is gonna be tanky as all F.

well, here goes nothing! lol

holy heck... a deathbringer... and it's just covered in all sorts of weapons and...coling systems which might be the best starting point. if it's weapons systems are down while it's overheated and cooling off then that's the best approach to this war machine.

and this still isn't the final boss. the worst is yet to come.

edit: o_O wth? i barely touched the thing. all i did was take off a gun and hit one of the cooling rods a few times... maybe that one was an early, weak version cause a thunderjaw would've had vastly higher hp.

edit2: well...i can't say much of what happened after that fight without MAJOR spoilers.

what i can say however is now i know what caused that world to eventually be in the state it's in in-game and... it's one of my man-made doomsday theories...self-annihilation, they made the tech too advanced and things went south...fast..

Updated by anonymous

and down goes the 2nd deathbringer (1st real fight since this one was up and walking around). not too bad. it was mainly all guns so it was basically a strafing/dodge roll fight. hit those cooling rods (on the feet in this 2nd fight) though and it'll fall on its side with the cooling vents up to open. hit those on top of the rods for some good damage. but aside from that, not much different from any other bot in this game: strip 'em down and keep hitting 'till they stop moving. especially if they can't be overridden like these and the corrupted versions.

So, No Man's Sky got an update recently.

Glitches in the simulation, visualised by strange floating orbs, allow players to see and communicate with up to 16 other travellers and explore the universe together. While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky.

Multiplayer now is implemented the way a lot of folk were likely waiting for.

oh well, guess that's good news for those who like that sort of thing.

...guess i could add that game to my queue and give it a shot. well, as long as it's improved a good bit from its release. and...

Shield Strength Absorbs up to 500 HP
Recharge Delay 10 sec
Recharge Rate 5 HP/sec, accelerates to 25 HP/sec over 5 secs
Modification Slots 0

i just unlocked horizon: zero dawn's ultimate armor (still hoping there's better in NG+ but for now, this'll do). :) less stealthy with this armor but i can make do.

edit: got the surge today and...really, sony? why didn't the 2 free DLC items download? and why can't i make them RE-download?

no, they are not installed because no, they didn't download. they didn't even appear in my notifications on the desktop.

OH, wait...of course. i forgot that DLC for ps4 games doesn't function until you update the game in question first. just like how updates block any and all online functions until you do the big download. oops, slipped my mind.

oh well, i'll get that stuff tonight then.

edit2: well, that's all for horizon: zero dawn. good game, great graphics, good story. the post credits bit however is one that likely would annoy some people. HADES escapes to return another day

well, now to check any youtube notifications then resume that update for the surge (had the name wrong earlier when i was calling it the purge. oops) and once that's done... grind cause everyone who said the surge gets hard after the first region were right.

the combats not too hard but those guys in the 2nd area start hitting hard and fast.

But how much music is that in terms of duration? That 1TB could be 20 minutes in an insanely high quality, uncompressed format for all we know.

the first Xenoblade Chronicles had 91 songs made for it, but I believe the songs Unfinished Battle and Prologue B doesn't even appear in gameplay or cutscenes at all, and I feel as if Prologue B didn't make it in due to forgetting to actually program it in, as it probably feel perfect in an area late in the game, or in New Game+.

I'm hoping there's more music in the game, as Xenoblade 2 isn't limited to 6.8GB like Xenoblade 1 was, or limited to the 32GB (this is assuming that you don't have an external HDD for your Wii U, which I would kind of recommend if you pick one up) the most space a Wii U version had.

like that FLAC format i avoid as it's almost always 4x the size of MP3 files. some people might like that lossless quality stuff but i'd rather have music at a file size where i can hold more for less on my computer with decent quality.

still, good question. what format is that 1TB of music in and how many tracks are there?

also, eh...i like the surge but there really is a difficulty spike after the first boss (which was a good first boss).

you enter the 2nd region and suddenly most enemies are fully armored, are more aggressive (MUCH more in some cases), and it just gets much harder overall. most enemies i could beat, i had to hit from behind after they did a jumping attack. and oh boy if those guys holding pipes got aggroed...ain't no stopping them that early in the game.

those 2 are VERY aggressive and almost always double team you when you go to hit 1 of them. kept taking me down in under 5-10 seconds whenever i got caught in their attacks. and that's with 165+ hp.

think i'll go watch tyrannicon's playthrough again as i never really finished it.

edit: if that was the amount of space needed for the music alone in a game then that game wouldn't fit on my 1tb ps4 pro. the whole hard drive would be holding the music before even getting to the game itself.

you can use fre:ac or ffmpeg to convert your files to lossy .ogg. it's transparent on every bitrate except for the very lowest settings, and sounds the same as mp3 320 at half bitrate. as an added bonus, it's an open format that plays everywhere.

Then there's things like multi-channel 192000Hz 32-bit WAVE files (that's a bitrate of 6144kbps per channel) that would eat up your hard drive in no time.

i converted this video to mp3 and that's 2.31MB for 2:32 minutes of audio.

pretty cool how they included sonic's origins as a rabbit in that pre-order video too. i wonder how many people actually know about how sonic was originally going to be a rabbit.

That didn't stop Sonic fans making a smuting sonic dating sim,
and you call it parody and not making a profit of the game,
that the only way you don't need to license something,
non profit and parody.

I'm surprise there isn't a undertale naughty dating sims yet.

something tells me it might not go over so well considering how toxic the fanbase for undertale got when they found out a character created by a babyfur (i forgot the characters name) was hidden in the game.

and i'm fairly certain the toxicity was less about the fact it was an anthro dragon and more because the creator of said character is a babyfur. iirc that's where most of the resulting drama was aimed.

Believe it or not, the core of the fandom was actually chill about So Sorry. The encounter in the game is quirky and only includes one joke sentence referring to the inflation fetish the character's creator has ("Whatever bloats your float"), and the character was in a completely out of the way secret area, accessible only on a specific date. You'd have to go out of your way to find him, let alone know about his fetishes.

"The fandom" that became toxic was only a handful of people being way too vocal on something they themselves looked for.

that's really not surprising to hear.

and in other news... Sonic Mania Review - Blue Skies Ahead

you can see Bean in one short clip (seems sega didn't want him showing too much of the game). so i'm assuming that might mean we'll also be seeing Nack and Bark as well somewhere in the game.

and after seeing the clips and stuff sega has shared thus far, the animation details remind me of that romhack, Pana der Hejhog. LOTS of small details in the animation such as sonic's legs gradually changing appearance depending on how fast hes moving (even going so far as having afterimages like in the Rush games) and other stuff. and since it's a 2d game, i wonder how much better it can handle high speeds compared to 3d games where... well, let's just say not all of them handle high speed movement very well and sometimes a slight twitch at high speed can end badly.

yet another general thread so others don't get too badly derailed.

You were wondering about Skyblivion. It's a port of Oblivion (TES4) to the Skyrim engine. How do you not know about it?

I used to be a member of the Skyblivion development team.

As such I was let inside their little cult.

They've achieved far less than they make you think with their promotional videos. Most of them are heavily scripted and anything you see wasn't implemented into the full mod.

I also had access to the 0.35 alpha.

They are mean, selfish, conceited people (far worse than I am).

So I uploaded the latest dev build.

I have every right to do so since there is no copyright on their work and there never will be.

It's free, and always will be.

If you want to try Skyblivion 0.3, I have the latest build on my MediaFire account.

I also have a YouTube video or two on it as well.

This is just the files packed into a 7z archive, there's no .exes, it's just ESPs, dds files, and meshes. I'ts about 2.5GB packed and about twice that unpacked. It's too big for VirusTotal and the nature of the project prevents me from uploading it to NexusMods. You can view a video of it here, but it's quite old: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APta1S1ZRqE

The project is being held in somewhat secret over at TESRenewal.com, but with Beyond Skyrim in the works with a PUBLIC BETA, Skyblivion's interest has dwindled.

something tells me it might not go over so well considering how toxic the fanbase for undertale got when they found out a character created by a babyfur (i forgot the characters name) was hidden in the game.

and i'm fairly certain the toxicity was less about the fact it was an anthro dragon and more because the creator of said character is a babyfur. iirc that's where most of the resulting drama was aimed.

how likely is it that the pre-orders will be under stocked due to nintendo's practice of causing artificial inflation?

Well I just like a straight forward dating sim
with some fun rpg and sims like gameplay action
very simple and silly like the sonic dating game and dream daddy
nothing over the top strange, not if it's funny.

the style i'm thinking would be a mixer of Miles-DF and Max Blackrabbit
with a dash of humbuged and sssonic2 art styles.

Hokinko Inn was fun and funny

The character's name was So Sorry.

while i can rim skyrim on my laptop (i would LOVE to know what sorcery bethesda used to make the system requirements so very VERY low for skyrim), it runs at an unplayable slow frame rate (talking single digits at the very best).

extremely low system requirements for such an advanced game yet still not quite good enough in the frame rate department and i don't particularly care to play console games with runescape tier graphics. bleh :/

due mostly to that, i never bothered checking out skyrim modding much. even when i rented it for ps4, bethesda's mod download system was crappy and buggy so i didn't do much even then. darn menu was VERY unstable. it'd kick me out of the menu most of the time while merely browsing and other times it'd randomly log me out and repeated login attempts usually failed. it'd also have trouble loading screenshots and stuff too.
